A medical treatment method comprises orally inserting a first endoscope having a first treatment tool provided thereto into a body cavity, inserting a first insertion member insertion support tool from at least one of abdominal and transdermal cavities into the body cavity, inserting a second endoscope having a second treatment tool provided thereto into the body cavity through the first insertion member insertion support tool, grasping a lesioned part by the second treatment tool inserted into the body cavity by the second endoscope, cutting the lesioned part by the first treatment tool inserted into the body cavity by the first endoscope, and collecting the lesioned part.

An endoscope system provided with an electronic or optical endoscope is provided therein with an illuminating optical system, an observation optical system, a flow passage system and a forceps channel. Cleaning and disinfection operations are performed on the endoscope so that the endoscope is reusable. An electronic or optical cover type endoscope is provided therein with an illuminating optical system and an observation optical system. The cover type endoscope is used with an endoscope cover having a flow passage system and a forceps channel mounted on the cover type endoscope. The endoscope cover is discarded and replaced whereby the cover type endoscope is reused. Peripheral equipment for endoscope inspection used in combination with the endoscopes is capable of being selectively connected to any of the endoscopes.

An electronic endoscope apparatus provided with an electronic endoscope having arranged thereon a solid-state image pickup element at an insertion portion, and external devices such as a light source device for supplying an illumination light to the electronic endoscope, a video processor for processing an electrical signal transmitted from the solid-state image pickup element of the electronic endoscope to produce a video signal. An electrical connection portion for electrically connecting the electronic endoscope and the video processor is provided at a connector portion which is provided at an end of a universal cord which connects the electronic endoscope and the light source device. An electromagnetic interference countermeasure member is provided which covers at least one of the connector portion, the universal cord and the external devices. A dual shield around a signal line is also provided which includes spirally-wound lead wires having different diameters and ends connected to video ground.

An endoscope has a channel switching device for use in switching over a suction channel. The channel switching device consists broadly of a cylinder unit and valve unit. The valve unit can be disassembled into three component parts; a button assembly, piston assembly, and mount assembly. The button assembly has a cap, which is made of a rigid resin such as polyether ketone (PEEK) or polysulfone (PSU), as the uppermost part thereof. Since the cap is made of a rigid resin durable to autoclaving; such as, PSU or PEEK, the valve unit will not be damaged due to autoclaving. Even when the autoclaved valve unit is put to use though it is not yet cooled down, an operator will not perceive heat very much but can manipulate the endoscope as he/she intends.

In an endoscope system including an endoscope having an insertion section and an operation section and a disposable protection cover having an insertion section cover having formed therein a forceps channel and a forceps inlet opening through which a forceps can be inserted into the forceps channel, the forceps inlet opening is selectively closed by a forceps plug which is made of resilient material and separately formed from the insertion section cover. The forceps plug is preferably formed such that it can be detachably secured to a forceps inlet opening of an ordinary coverless (without-cover} endoscope.

An endoscope having a conduit-providing flexible tube and a device for connecting said flexible tube, said device comprising a coupling member that is provided on the outer circumference with a first tapered portion the outside diameter of which decreases toward at least one end of said coupling member and that has a conduit in the interior, an annular retaining member that is fitted over the outer circumference of one end portion of said flexible tube which is to be fitted over said first tapered portion and that has on the inner circumference a second tapered portion the inside diameter of which decreases toward said at least one end in such a way as to provide engagement with said first tapered portion, and a clamp member that depresses said retaining member in the axial direction in which said first tapered portion flares, thereby depressing said flexible tube to be secured to said coupling member, characterized by further having an urging and covering member that not only covers the outer circumferential portion of said flexible tube that has been fitted into said coupling member at the end portion coupled to said flexible tube but also urges said flexible tube to be secured to said first tapered portion.

An endoscope includes an operating portion placed outside a living body, an insertion portion having a proximal end portion coupled to the operating portion, a distal end portion inserted in the living body, and an instrument insertion channel extending through the insertion portion, a raising mechanism having an operation wire and designed to direct the distal end portion of an instrument, caused to extend through the channel, to a predetermined position, and an operation means for operating the operation wire. The endoscope includes a distal end body portion arranged at the distal end portion of the insertion portion and incorporating an observation means for observing the interior of the living body, a support member for forming at least a portion of the outer surface of the distal end portion. The support member is detachable from the distal end body portion. The endoscope further includes a raising base which is supported on the support member such that the angle at which the raising base is arranged can be adjusted. The angle of the raising base is adjusted by the operation wire. The operation wire is detachable from the operation means.

In an endoscope system including an endoscope having an insertion section and an operation section and a disposable protection cover having an insertion section cover having formed therein a forceps channel and a forceps inlet opening through which a forceps can be inserted into the forceps channel, said forceps inlet opening is selectively closed by a forceps plug which is made of resilient material and separately formed from the insertion section cover. The forceps plug is preferably formed such that it can be detachably secured to a forceps inlet opening of an ordinary coverless (without-cover) endoscope.

A device to be incorporated in the housing of the operation section of an endoscope, for operating a bending mechanism incorporated in the insertion section of the endoscope, comprises an operation shaft and a holder. The operation shaft has a distal end connected to the bending mechanism and a proximal end portion projecting from an operation section of the endoscope. The holder is mounted on a distal end portion of the operation shaft and comprises an upper and lower cover which are joined together and which define an outside surface and a hollow cylindrical space around the operation shaft. The upper and lower covers abut each other to form an interface on the outside surface.

An endoscope pipeline controlling apparatus and endoscope system comprising an air feeding pipe communicating with an air feeding pump, a water feeding tank to which is connected a water feeding air feeding pipe branched from a part of the above-mentioned air feeding pipe, a water feeding pipe connected to this water feeding tank, electromagnetic valves fitted to the above-mentioned air feeding pipe and water feeding pipe and connecting pipelines connecting the above-mentioned air feeding pipe and water feeding pipe to communicate with pipelines of an endoscope so that, even if a light source apparatus feeding an illuminating light to the endoscope is not provided with an air feeding and water feeding pipeline controlling apparatus, feeding air and feeding water to the endoscope will be able to be controlled.
