A reinforced acetylene high polymer shaped article is provided, which is comprised of an acetylene high polymer and 10 to 500 wt. parts, per 100 wt. parts of the acetylene high polymer, of a sheet-form product of a fibrous material. The reinforced acetylene high polymer shaped article is prepared by polymerizing acetylene in the presence of the sheet-form product coated or impregnated with a catalyst solution, or by superposing the acetylene high polymer upon the sheet-form product and then pressing or calendering the superposed assembly. The reinforced acetylene high polymer shaped article is useful particularly as an electrode of a battery.

An improved battery having anode means, cathode means and an electrolyte is provided, wherein the electrolyte comprises a compound capable of being ionized into at least one dopant selected from anion dopants and cation dopants and at least one of the anode means and cathode means comprises as its electrode-active material an acetylene high polymer having a fibrous microcrystalline (fibril) structure and a bulk density of 0.7 to 1.2 g/cc, which is dopable to a more highly oxidized state by the anion dopant or an electron-accepting compound consisting of the molecule of the anion or dopable to a more lowly oxidized state by the cation dopant or an electron-donating compound consisting of the molecule of the cation.

A process for producing a molded article of a high polymer of acetylene, which comprises press-forming a gel-like material or swollen material composed of 5 to 95% by weight of a high polymer of acetylene having a cis content of at least 50% and 95 to 5% by weight of an organic solvent at a temperature of not more than 50.degree. C. and a pressure of 10 to 1,000 kg/cm.sup.2 with or without prior treatment with an electron acceptor or donor substance, and when the treatment with the electron acceptor or donor substance is not performed, calendering or monoaxially stretching the resulting molded article, and if a molded article of an especially high electrical conductivity is desired, treating the molded article further with an electron acceptor or donor substance.

Process for production of molded articles of acetylene polymer

A flame-resistant composition of (a) a ring-opening polymerization product of a norbornene derivative and (b) a halogen-containing multicyclic compound or bromine-containing aromatic compound. The composition is employed in shaped articles and structural materials which are subjected to flame and heat exposure.
