An air bag device for use with a motor vehicle has an inflatable bag on the inner surface of which is provided a thin film-like layer of gas generating agent. At least one igniter is mounted in a part of the thin gas generating agent layer. When the vehicle encounters a collision, the gas generating agent is ignited by the igniter to generate gas. The gas fills up and thereby inflates the bag to restrain an occupant of the vehicle.

Air bag device for protecting a vehicle occupant

This invention relates to an air bag inflation gas generator to feed gas for inflation of air bags such as air bags for absorbing collision shocks, life jackets, rafts, and escape chutes. The air bag inflation gas generator according to the present invention has a combustion chamber comprising a bottom-closed cylinder of a housing body and a lid covering the opening of the bottom-closed cylinder. The housing body comprises the bottom-closed cylinder, a flange extending outward and formed integrally with the opening of the bottom-closed cylinder, and an external cylinder formed on the periphery of the flange and bent toward the bottom of the housing body. A plenum chamber is formed by covering the external and bottom-closed cylinders with a covering member from the bottom of the housing body and by welding the covering member to the cylinders.

Air bag inflation gas generator

A vibration suppression apparatus for a steering wheel having an air bag unit attached to the steering wheel body. The air bag unit includes a gas generator and a bag. At least part of the air bag unit is attached to the steering wheel body through a resilient means and thus, functions as a damper wieght, thus enabling the vibration of the steering wheel to be suppressed by the dynamic damper effect.

A steering wheel assembly with an air bag unit, which comprises a hub releasably secured onto a steering shaft, one or more connecting members attached to the hub, a steering wheel connected to the hub by the one or more connecting members, the air bag unit including a casing substantially centrally arranged on the hub, a gas generator mounted in the casing and having a squib protecting substantially centrally downwardly from its lower surface, an air bag attached to the casing and communicating with the gas generator, the air bag being inflated by gas fed from the gas generator, and a cover adapted to cover the casing. Each of the gas generator and the squib has a central axis offset from an axis of rotation of the steering shaft, and the steering wheel has a center of gravity diametrically opposite to a center of gravity of the gas generator with respect to the axis of rotation of said steering shaft.
