A fuel injection device that injects a liquefied gas fuel from an injection port to a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine includes a passage forming member configured to define a fuel passage through which the liquefied gas fuel flows to the injection port, a temperature regulating unit configured to adjust a temperature of the liquefied gas fuel flowing through the fuel passage according to an operation state of the internal combustion engine, and a pressure regulating unit configured to adjust a pressure of the liquefied gas fuel flowing through the fuel passage according to the operation state of the internal combustion engine.

Fuel injection device

A fuel supply device supplying a fuel stored in a fuel tank to an engine includes a low-pressure pump configured to feed the fuel, a high-pressure pump configured to compress the fuel discharged from the low-pressure pump and to feed to the engine, a first low-pressure passage member configured to define a first fuel passage from the low-pressure pump to the high-pressure pump, and a second low-pressure passage member configured to define a second fuel passage branched from the first fuel passage at a low-pressure junction portion and joining the first fuel passage at a low-pressure confluence portion, wherein the first fuel passage and the second fuel passage are different in at least one of (i) temperatures of the fuels that flow through the fuel passages and (ii) passage lengths of the fuel passages from the low-pressure junction portion to the low-pressure confluence portion.

Fuel supply device

A Laval shape is formed between the nozzle seat surface and needle tip portion. An injection hole also has the Laval shape. When the needle lift amount is small, a fuel flow velocity reaches an acoustic velocity in valve-opening portion. The fuel flow velocity further accelerated to a supersonic velocity at the Laval shape. When the needle lift amount is large, the fuel flows into the injection hole without a velocity decrease. Thus, the fuel flow velocity reaches the supersonic velocity at the Laval shape.

Fuel injection nozzle

A fuel supply system has a pressure chamber which communicates with a fuel gallery. The pressure chamber receives the fuel from the feed pump or the returned fuel from the fuel gallery. The fuel in the pressure chamber receives heat energy from the engine E so that the fuel is brought into gas-liquid phase. A volume change of the fuel in liquid phase in the fuel gallery can be compensated by a volume change of the fuel in gas phase or gas-liquid phase in the pressure chamber. Thus, the pressure pulsation in the fuel gallery is absorbed in the pressure chamber.

Fuel supply system

A fuel supply device includes a leaked fuel collection unit and a check valve. When fuel passes through a first seal member to leak out from a cam chamber into an inter-seal space, the leaked fuel collection unit sucks in this fuel to extract the fuel from the inter-seal space, then pressurizes and returns the fuel to a fuel tank. The check valve prevents the fuel from flowing in reverse from the fuel tank to the inter-seal space. Accordingly, regardless of the pressure in the fuel tank and the pressure in the inter-seal space, fuel that leaks into the inter-seal space may be actively returned to the fuel tank. Further, the check valve prevents pressure in the fuel tank from acting on seal members. Accordingly, fuel that leaks into the inter-seal space may be collected into the fuel tank.

A fuel injection nozzle includes: a nozzle body having a plurality of injection holes; and a needle accommodated in the nozzle body to inject a DME fuel containing dimethyl ether as a main component. The nozzle body has a seat part to which the needle seated or from which the needle separated, and a tip end chamber arranged downstream of the seat part in a flow of the DME fuel to communicate with the plurality of injection holes. The DME fuel in the tip end chamber is heated with combustion heat in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine to have a supercritical state.

A liquefied gas fuel is supplied to a fuel gallery of a high-pressure pump through a feed pipe. A fuel injection apparatus includes a passage expansion pipe of which passage area is greater than that of the fuel gallery. The passage expansion pipe is arranged between the feed pipe and the fuel gallery. When the fuel is supplied to the fuel gallery during a suction stroke of a plunger, the passage expansion pipe functions as an accumulator accumulating the fuel therein. The replenishing fuel from the passage expansion pipe is added to the fuel supplied from the feed pump. A pressure drop in the fuel gallery becomes small, so that the pressure pulsation in the fuel gallery is reduced.

Fuel injection apparatus

A fuel injector injects high-pressure gaseous fuel directly into a cylinder of an engine. A small amount of liquid fuel is used in the injector to lubricate sliding portions of the fuel injector in addition to utilizing it as a medium for transmitting driving force. The fuel injector includes a nozzle member having injection holes at its elongated end and a needle slidably disposed in an elongated center hole of the nozzle member. The needle is driven by pressure of the liquid fuel introduced into a control chamber to open or close the injection holes. The pressure in the control chamber is controlled by a switching valve which is in turn driven by an actuator such as an electromagnetic or piezoelectric actuator. The liquid fuel is injected together with the high-pressure gaseous fuel after lubricating the sliding portions between the nozzle member and the needle.

Gaseous fuel injector using liquid fuel as lubricant and pressure-transmitting medium

An endurance testing apparatus, which is for performing an endurance test of a contacting/separating portion in which a first member and a second member repeats contacting with and separating from each other, has a contact load generator and a testing medium fluid supply means. The contact load generator reciprocates the second member relative to the first member to generate a contact load acting between the first member and the second member repeatedly. The testing medium fluid supply means supplies a testing medium fluid to the contacting/separating portion to expose the first member and the second member to the testing medium fluid.

Endurance testing apparatus

The injector includes a nozzle, a needle, a control chamber, a working fluid supply passage, an electric switching valve, a high-pressure gaseous fuel supply passage and a lubrication liquid fuel supply passage. The nozzle has an injection hole, through which high-pressure gaseous fuel is injected. The needle is axially reciprocably received in the nozzle to open and close the injection hole. The needle includes a sliding portion and a valve portion. The control chamber applies a pressure to the needle. The working fluid supply passage supplies liquid fuel to the control chamber. The electric switching valve controls an inflow/outflow of the liquid fuel to/from the control chamber. The high-pressure gaseous fuel supply passage supplies the high-pressure gaseous fuel to the injection hole. The lubrication liquid fuel supply passage supplies the liquid fuel from the working fluid supply passage to the sliding portion and the valve portion.

Gaseous fuel injector

A fuel injection system includes (i) an injector for injecting gaseous fuel and liquid fuel into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, (ii) a gaseous fuel supplying unit having a gaseous feel tank as a first high-pressure accumulating source for pressurizing gaseous fuel, (iii) a liquid fuel supplying unit having a common rail as a second high-pressure accumulating source for pressurizing liquid fuel; (iv) a fuel pump as a pressure feeding unit that pressure feeds liquid fuel to the common rail; and (v) a compressor as a pressure increasing unit, which is operated under pressure of the pressurized gaseous fuel to increase pressure of liquid fuel pressure fed from the fuel pump.

Fuel injection system

In a gas fuel engine, a first air-fuel mixture having a local excess air factor &#x3bb; not less than 2 is combusted (a first combustion). When a target torque is not sufficiently obtained by the first combustion, a fuel is directly injected into a combustion chamber to form a second air-fuel mixture having a local excess air factor &#x3bb; less than 1.1, so that a second combustion is performed. The combustion of the air-fuel mixture is switched from the first combustion to the second combustion in one combustion stroke.

Gas fuel engine and control method for the same

In a fuel injection nozzle, a nozzle body is provided inside with a guide hole having a second guide portion (cylindrical hole) for slidably holding a guide shaft of a needle and a seat surface axially below the second guide portion, with first injection bores opened to the seat surface and with second injection bores opened to an inner circumference of the second portion. The needle is provided at an end thereof with a circular seat contact coming in contact with the seat surface axially above the first injection bores and inside the guide shaft with a fuel passage through which fuel is supplied to a position axially above the seat contact. With the construction mentioned above, as the second guide portion is formed axially above the sack chamber and inner diameter thereof is larger than that of the sack chamber, the second guide portion is more easily formed at lower cost.

A fuel supply apparatus is provided which works to supply fuel such as a dimethly ether used as an alternative to a typical fuel for an internal combustion engine. The fuel supply apparatus includes a high-pressure pump working to feed the to injectors from a fuel tank through a common rail, a fuel return line, and a compressor working to add to a back pressure higher than a vapor pressure of the fuel to the return line. The addition of the back pressure higher than the vapor pressure of the fuel facilitates liquidizing of the fuel. This results in a decrease in leakage of the fuel, which improves the efficiency of burning of the fuel and ensures the startability and drivability of the engine.

Fuel supply system for alternative fuel

A fuel supply system has a pump, a common rail, and injectors. Pressurized fuel is stored in the common rail. The common rail distributes the fuel to the injectors. A liquid fuel and a liquefied gas fuel such as dimethyl ether and a liquefied petroleum gas may be used as a fuel. In each injector, a valve element is actuated directly by an electromagnetic actuator. The injector has a low pressure chamber for decreasing a biasing force which acts on the valve element in a valve closing direction. The valve element can be divided for replacement. The injector has means for suppressing the bounce of the valve element. A hydraulic unit which utilizes the fuel suppresses the bounce of the valve element. The fuel supply system is connected to a refrigerating cycle. The fuel leaking from the fuel supply system is cooled and again liquefied by the refrigerating cycle.
