According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display area, a light control element, a projection surface and at least one of one or more mirrors or one or more lenses. The display area includes subpixels, and includes a first area containing first subpixels in the subpixels and a second area containing second subpixels in the subpixels. The light control element is overlapped with the first area. The projection surface projects an image displayed in the display area. A virtual image perceived by a user who views the projection surface includes a first virtual image corresponding to the first area and perceived as a stereoscopic virtual image, and a second virtual image corresponding to the second area and perceived as a planar virtual image.

Display device

According to one embodiment, a viewing angle control element includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and an electrolyte layer. The first substrate includes a first transparent substrate, a first light-shielding portion and a second light-shielding portion provided between the first transparent substrate and the electrolyte layer, a first transparent insulating layer provided between the first light-shielding portion and the second light-shielding portion, and a first transparent electrode. The first transparent electrode includes a first electrode portion overlapping the first light-shielding portion, a second electrode portion overlapping the second light-shielding portion, and an opening portion overlapping the first transparent insulating layer.

Viewing angle control element and display device

A display device is provided and includes first light-transmitting substrate; second light-transmitting substrate opposed to the first light-transmitting substrate; liquid crystal layer between the first light-transmitting substrate and the second light-transmitting substrate; first electrode and a second electrode disposed so as to sandwich the liquid crystal layer; and light emitter comprising a first light emitter configured to emit light in a first color, a second light emitter configured to emit light in a second color, and a third light emitter configured to emit light in a third color, wherein first light emitter has a temperature characteristic in which a relative light intensity decreases more with increase in a heating temperature than in the case of the second light emitter and the third light emitter.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel that includes a display portion including pixels and a non-display portion including an opening, an illumination device, and a color separation element provided between the display panel and the illumination device. The color separation element includes a first element overlapping the pixel and a second element overlapping the opening, the first element separates illumination light from the illumination device into light of a plurality of colors and irradiates the pixel with the light, and the second element separates illumination light from the illumination device into light of a plurality of colors and irradiates the opening with the light.

According to one embodiment, a display apparatus includes a display device and an image display control circuit. The display device includes a display panel and a light controller. The light controller controls a direction of a light ray emitted from the display panel. The image display control circuit controls the display panel to display an image in which two or more parallax images having different parallax numbers are mixed, on a display surface of the display device. The image display control circuit displays a parallax image having a first parallax number in at least a first area and displays a parallax image having a second parallax number in a second area. The second parallax number is smaller than the first parallax number.

A display device includes: a first pixel including a first sub-pixel, a second sub-pixel, and a third sub-pixel; and a second pixel including the first sub-pixel, the second sub-pixel, and a fourth sub-pixel. The first pixel and the second pixel are alternately arranged in a row direction and a column direction. The third sub-pixel and the fourth sub-pixel are alternately arranged in the column direction. Display device with multi-domain method

A display device includes a first light-transmitting substrate, a second light-transmitting substrate opposed to the first light-transmitting substrate, a liquid crystal layer comprising polymer dispersed liquid crystals filled between the first light-transmitting substrate and the second light-transmitting substrate, at least one light emitter opposed to at least one of a side surface of the first light-transmitting substrate and a side surface of the second light-transmitting substrate, and a first electrode and a second electrode disposed so as to sandwich the liquid crystal layer.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first arrangement layer and a second arrangement layer. The first layer includes a first pixel, a second pixel, and a third pixel are arranged periodically in one direction. The second layer is opposed to the first layer, and the second layer includes a first element, a second element, and a third element which are arranged periodically to correspond to the first pixel, the second pixel, and the third pixel, respectively, and separate emission light to light of wavelength corresponding to a first color, light of wavelength corresponding to a second color, and light of wavelength corresponding to a third color to be emitted on the first pixel, the second pixel, and the third pixel, respectively.

According to an aspect, a liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate provided with a first electrode portion that includes a plurality of strip electrodes arranged in a first direction and that is configured to generate a transverse electric field in the first direction; a liquid crystal layer in which liquid crystal molecules are oriented in the first direction when the transverse electric field is not generated; a second substrate facing the first substrate across the liquid crystal layer; and an electrode provided at the second substrate.

Liquid crystal display device

A method of driving an image display apparatus which includes an image display panel having a plurality of pixels arrayed in a two-dimensional matrix and each configured from a first subpixel for displaying a first primary color, a second subpixel for displaying a second primary color, a third subpixel for displaying a third primary color and a fourth subpixel for displaying a fourth color, and a signal processing section. The signal processing section is capable of calculating a first subpixel output signal, a second subpixel output signal, a third subpixel output signal, and a fourth subpixel output signal. The method includes a step of calculating a maximum value (V(S)) of brightness, a saturation (S) and brightness (V(S)), and determining the expansion coefficient (&#x3b1;).

Driving method for image display apparatus

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel, a light source, a light guide and a prism sheet. The display panel includes a display area in which unit pixels each containing first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels are arranged along a first direction and a second direction. In the display area, the first sub-pixels have a width different from that of the second sub-pixel in at least one of the first direction and the second direction, or each unit pixel contains different numbers of first sub-pixels and second sub-pixels. The prism sheet is interposed between the light guide and the display panel and includes prisms extending along a third direction inclined with respect to the second direction by an acute angle of inclination.

Display device and method

According to an aspect, a display device includes an image display panel including: sub-pixel rows, in each of which sub-pixels for displaying different colors are periodically arrayed in a first direction, are regularly arranged in a second direction different from the first direction; signal lines in parallel to sub-pixel columns in which the sub-pixels are successively arranged in the second direction; and scan lines that sequentially select each sub-pixel row. Each of m (integer &#x2265;2) selector signals selects n (integer &#x2265;1) pairs of the signal lines each supplied with two signals each having a mutually reverse polarity, within a period during which each sub-pixel row is selected by a corresponding scan line, and a sum of potential changes of the n pairs of the signal lines selected by each selector signal is substantially zero when each sub-pixel row is sequentially selected by the corresponding scan line.

A display device includes a display unit in which a plurality of pixels are arranged. One pixel includes four sub-pixels, and the display unit includes: a pixel including one each of four sub-pixels of four different colors that are a first color, a second color, a third color, and a fourth color; and a pixel including four sub-pixels, where two of the four sub-pixels are identical and are one of sub-pixels of the first color, the second color, and the third color, and remaining two of the four sub-pixels are different two of the sub-pixels of the first color, the second color, and the third color but are not one of the identical sub-pixels.
