A recording member cutting device for cutting a continuous recording material along a side of a plurality of cutting areas defined in the continuous recording material includes a nick cutting mechanism, and an area cutting mechanism. The nick cutting mechanism includes a first cutting unit configured to form a hole-shaped nick for each cutting area. Each nick is located outside the plurality of the cutting areas, on a downstream side of the corresponding cutting area in the conveying direction and on a line extending along one side of the corresponding cutting area. The one side is along the conveying direction. The area cutting mechanism includes a second cutting unit configured to insert into the nick. The second cutting unit cuts, when the nick has been formed, the continuous recording material along the one side from a position of the nick.

An articulator shape input section detects movements of an articulator and generates feature data of speech. On the other hand, a speech mode detection section of a speech mode input section detects a mode of the speech. The kind of standard pattern is selected in accordance with the detected speech mode or a speech mode that is specified manually through a speech mode manual input section. A comparison section detects the speech by comparing the selected kind of standard pattern and the input feature data.

As a speaker produces a sound, the positions and angles of specular reflection plates put on the skin of the vocal organs and periphery thereof change. Resultantly, a ray of light applied from a light source section is reflected by the specular reflection plates uniquely in accordance with a law of reflection and the direction of the ray of light changes. Specularly reflected light spots moving on the face of a position detection sensor are detected by the position detection sensor, thereby detecting the positions of the specularly reflected light spots corresponding to the shape of the vocal organs and periphery thereof produced as the speaker produces the sound. Time characteristic and position change features are extracted based on the specularly reflected light spot positions detected. The features are compared with standard features patterns, thereby classifying input voice.

Speech detection apparatus using specularly reflected light

The device for illuminating an original document in a copying machine in which the original document is properly illuminated both when it is in contact with a platen and when it floats above the platen. A main reflector is disposed around a light source to produce an arc of illumination directed toward the platen. A primary reflector disposed within the periphery of the arc reflects a first beam toward the platen while a floating-original reflector, also disposed within the periphery of the arc, reflects a second beam of light toward the platen in a direction so as to illuminate the original document within a predetermined range of distance from the platen.
