A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate and liquid crystal. The first substrate includes pixel electrodes, a peripheral circuit and a dummy wiring. The peripheral circuit and the dummy wiring are provided outside a pixel area in which the pixel electrodes are arranged. The second substrate is opposed to the first substrate through the liquid crystal. The second substrate includes a translucent conductive film that is provided on an opposite side of the second substrate to a side where the liquid crystal is present. The dummy wiring is located on an outer peripheral side of the substrates than the peripheral circuit and is provided independently of the peripheral circuit in terms of circuit. The dummy wiring is grounded outside the first substrate.

Liquid crystal display device having improved electrostatic discharge resistance

In a wire grid polarization element where wires are arranged in parallel on one surface of the substrate, each of the wires includes in a thickness direction thereof a reflection section composed primarily of a light reflective material and an absorption section composed primarily of a light absorptive material. The reflection section includes oxygen. Between a first portion on the substrate side of the reflection section and a second portion at an edge on an opposite side the reflection section from the substrate, is provided a mixture portion (a first mixture portion) where a proportion of oxygen gradually decreases and a proportion of aluminum which is the light reflective material gradually increases from the second portion to the first portion. Thus, even when the reflection section is provided with portions having different compositions, development of an interface does not occur inside the reflection section.

Display device with a translucent conductive film

A wire grid polarization apparatus includes a plurality of wire-shaped metal layers arranged in parallel to each other in a region, on which light is incident, on a side of a first surface of a transmissive substrate. The wire-shaped metal layers include aluminum or silver as a principal component. Outside the region, a sacrificial electrode having an ionization tendency greater than an ionization tendency of the wire-shaped metal layers is electrically coupled to the wire-shaped metal layers. This allows the sacrificial electrode to prevent the wire-shaped metal layers from being corroded under a condition of high temperature and high humidity. Being provided outside the region, the sacrificial electrode does not impair polarization separation performance.

A polarization element includes a plurality of metallic thin lines that extend in one direction on one surface of a substrate, a protecting layer that is provided on the plurality of metallic thin lines, and a cavity portion that is surrounded by two metallic thin lines which are adjacent to each other, the substrate, and the protecting layer. Each end portion of the plurality of metallic thin layers has a forward tapered shape in a cross-section parallel to the one direction, and the protecting layer extends from the upper portion of the plurality of metallic thin lines to the one surface of the substrate through each end portion.

Polarization element and method of manufacturing polarization element

A vertical alignment liquid crystal layer is sealed between a first substrate having a first electrode and a second substrate having a second electrode, each pixel region has a reflective region and a transmissive region, and a gap adjusting section is provided on one of sides of the first substrate and the second substrate which sets a thickness (gap) d of the liquid crystal layer which controls a phase difference of incident light to the liquid crystal layer so that a gap dr in the reflective region is smaller than a gap dt in the transmissive region. An alignment controller which divides alignment of the liquid crystal within a pixel region is provided in the pixel region on at least one of the sides of the first substrate and the second substrate. It is also possible to optimize by changing the gap in red, green, and blue.

Transflective liquid crystal display device and color liquid crystal display device

An electro-optic device includes a pixel section and a terminal section through which a semiconductor circuit or a wiring board is mounted around the pixel section. The terminal section has a multilayer structure including a terminal connection wire including an uppermost layer containing titanium, a terminal interlayer made of an electroconductive material capable of being wet-etched, and a terminal transparent electroconductive film in that order from below.

A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal disposed between a first transparent substrate and a second transparent substrate, a first electrode and second electrode which overlie the first transparent substrate and which are used to drive the liquid crystal, one or more layers overlying the first electrode, and one or more layers overlying the second electrode. The correlation between layers disposed between the first electrode and the liquid crystal agrees with the correlation between layers disposed between the second electrode and the liquid crystal.
