Adhesive compositions and methods for bonding materials with different thermal expansion coefficients is provided. The adhesive is formulated using a flux material, a low flux material, and a filler material, where the filler material comprises particulate from at least one of the two components being bonded together. A thickening agent can also be used as part of the adhesive composition to aid in applying the adhesive and establishing a desired bond thickness. The method of forming a high strength bond using the disclosed adhesive does not require the use of intermediary layer or the use of high cure temperatures that could damage one or both of the components being bonded together.

A ceramic bonding material including at least one fibrous material, a flux agent and a thickening agent wherein the ceramic bonding material fired at a set temperature to bond the two adjacent substrate faces.

Process and formulation to join ceramic forms while maintaining structural and physical characteristics across the bond surface

A method of making a ceramic composite comprises forming a wet ceramic composition comprising a plurality of discrete ceramic components and a fluxing agent dissolved in a solvent. At least a portion of the solvent is removed from the wet ceramic composition to form a dried ceramic composition comprising the plurality of discrete ceramic components coated with the fluxing agent. The dried ceramic composition is sintered to form the ceramic composite, the sintering being carried out at a sinter temperature sufficient to fuse the discrete ceramic components at bridging sites formed where two or more of the discrete ceramic components coated with fluxing agent are in physical contact.

Ceramic composition and method of making the composition

Provided are stacks including CMC structures and capping layers deposited on surfaces of these CMC structures. Also provided are methods for hermetically sealing the surfaces of the CMC structures with the capping layers. These stacks may be used to construct walls of radomes that enclose antennas and other equipment of aerospace vehicles. The capping layers may form smooth external surfaces of the radomes and may hermetically seal the underlying CMC structures. The dielectric properties of these stacks may be configured to minimize interference with operations of the antennas and other equipment deposited within the radome.

Stacks having hermetic capping layers over porous ceramic matrix composite structures

Provided are methods for hermetically sealing the surfaces of the CMC structures with the capping layers, comprising depositing a slurry onto the surface of a CMC structure and treating the CMC structure with the deposited slurry in an oxygen containing environment, thereby forming a stack. These stacks may be used to construct walls of radomes that enclose antennas and other equipment of aerospace vehicles. The capping layers may form smooth external surfaces of the radomes and may hermetically seal the underlying CMC structures. The dielectric properties of these stacks may be configured to minimize interference with operations of the antennas and other equipment deposited within the radome.
