A compression fastener may include a shaft and a helical thread disposed about the shaft. The shaft may include a proximal end, a distal end, a proximal shaft portion, and a distal shaft portion. The helical thread may include at least one concave undercut surface and a plurality of pitches that may include at least one first pitch along the proximal shaft portion and at least one second pitch along the distal shaft portion. The at least one concave undercut surface may be angled towards one of the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft, and the at least one first pitch and the at least one second pitch may not be equal to each other.

Soft tissue repair

A suture passing instrument includes an operation handle, a cannulated needle member, a suture pusher, a suture shuttle and a guide tube. The needle member has a curved end portion. The needle member has an outer sidewall and an inner sidewall defining a bore extending through the needle member for receiving a suture. The suture pusher is movable within the needle member from a retracted position to an extended position. The suture shuttle has at least one bead and is loaded into the bore cannulated needle and movable along the bore by the suture pusher. The guide tube has a body telescopically receiving a retriever loop. The loop is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A suture can be moved by the suture pusher and captured by the retriever loop.

Method and apparatus for passing a suture

A suture passing instrument includes an operation handle, a cannulated needle member, a suture pusher, and a guide tube. The handle has an actuator movable between first and second positions. The needle member extends from the operation handle. The needle member has a curved end portion. The needle member has an outer sidewall and an inner sidewall defining a bore extending through the needle member for receiving a suture. The suture pusher is movable within the needle member from a retracted position to an extended position. The guide tube has a body telescopically receiving a retriever loop. The loop is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A suture can be moved by the suture pusher and captured by the retriever loop.

A system and method for attaching soft tissue to bone. The invention comprises the provision and use of a novel two-part anchor for attaching soft tissue and the like to bone. In one form of the invention, the two-part anchor generally comprises a stake and a cap. The stake is adapted to be positioned in bone and form a stake for impalement by a piece of soft tissue. The cap is adapted to cap soft tissue which has been impaled on the stake and thereby bind the soft tissue to the stake and, hence, to the bone in which the stake is set.
