An airflow mask tool incudes a pressure side mask portion to seal at least a portion of a pressure side of a component having an array of internal passageways and a suction side mask portion to seal at least a portion of a suction side of the component, at least one of the suction side mask portion and the pressure side mask portion comprising at least one opening to expose at least one exit from the array of internal passageways.

Additively manufactured airflow mask tool

A monolithic airflow testing mold suitable for mating with a workpiece includes a platform portion formed from a first material having a first hardness. The mold further includes a workpiece mating portion surrounding by the platform portion. The mating portion includes a support region abutting the platform portion and formed from a second material having a second hardness, and a sealing surface positioned above the support region and formed from a third material having a third hardness. The sealing surface is configured to mate with and extend into a hollow portion of the workpiece. The first hardness is different from at least one of the second and third hardnesses.

Hybrid material airflow impression molds

An automated airflow inspection system for airfoil blades or vanes includes an operator station for mounting the airfoil and a robotic station for pressure tapping the airfoil. The robotic station includes a vision system and a pressure tapper mounted to a robotic arm. The vision system identifies a pattern of holes of the airfoil blade or vane. The system identifies a hole within the pattern of holes by comparing the pattern of holes to a pre-loaded program associated with the airfoil blade or vane. The system is monitored and controlled by a human to machine interface.

Automation of airfoil pressure taps for testing holes of an airfoil

An airflow testing system for an aerospace component uses a flow master with a first sealing surface, a hollow body, and a metering plate. A desired back pressure across a flow path through the aerospace component is determined, and used to form a metering outlet through the metering plate. The plate is attached to the hollow body in a fluid seal, the flow master is secured to a testing position in a fluid seal, and back pressure across the flow master is sensed while flowing air through the flow master. The difference between desired and sensed back pressure is used to evaluate the airflow testing system.
