A process for purifying an impure vinylically-unsaturated organosilicon product compound prepared by reaction between a vinylically-unsaturated organosilicon precursor and a halogenated organic compound in the presence of a homogeneous zerovalent palladium catalyst complex, the catalyst complex including an organophosphine or organoarsine ligand, in the presence of a hydrogen halide acceptor in an essentially anhydrous diluent, comprising treating a mixture containing the impure vinylically-unsaturated organosilicon product compound with a peroxide for a time sufficient to oxidize organophosphine or organoarsine impurities present in a mixture being treated. The peroxide can be selected from aqueous hydrogen peroxide or organic peroxides. The thus-treated mixture can be further treated by chromatography over silica gel or alumina. In optional embodiments, chromatography over silica gel or alumina can precede treatment with the peroxide.

Process for purifying vinylically-unsaturated organosilicon compounds

A structured latex polymer particle suitable for use in the preparation of a wet-laid composite sheet having good wet-end and end-use properties. The structured latex particle has a core region comprising from about 10 to about 40 percent of the total polymer particle volume and a shell region comprising from about 60 to about 90 percent of the total polymer particle volume and comprising a vinyl acid. The core region is prepared to have good end-use properties as measured by tensile and elongation and the shell region is prepared to have good wet-end properties as measured by deposition and drainage time. The subject structured latex polymer particles are thus advantageously employed in the preparation of composite sheets of all types to thus form an economical and high quality composite sheet.

Suitably substituted 2-aminomethyl pyridines and suitably substituted 2-pyridinylcarbinols are reacted with 3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxoyl chloride in an inert solvent to form a group of biologically active organic compounds. These compounds are active as fungicides, herbicides, or both.

4,4'-Dihydroxybiphenyl is purified to remove sulfur-containing impurities, color bodies and/or phenyl-substituted phenol compounds by heating in the presence of a mixture of water and a water-miscible organic compound selected from acetone and C.sub.1-6 alkanols or diols for a time sufficient to remove substantial quantities of the sulfur-containing impurity, color bodies and/or phenyl-substituted phenol compound and thereafter recovering the purified 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl.
