A fuze booster includes a first explosive charge having a cavity with an annular portion of the first explosive charge encircling a first axial portion of the cavity and a semi-annular portion partially encircling a second axial portion of the cavity. The annular portion abuts the semi-annular portion. An explosively-inert material abuts the semi-annular portion, abuts the annular portion, and partially encircles the second axial portion of the cavity. A second explosive charge abuts the explosively-inert material, abuts the semi-annular portion, and partially encircles the second axial portion of the cavity. The second axial portion of the cavity is thus completely encircled by a combination of the semi-annular portion, the explosively-inert material, and the second explosive charge.

Detonation-wave-shaping fuze booster

An initiation distributor includes two plates coupled in a spaced-apart fashion. Each plate includes detonation transfer holes. A face of one plate has a depression and defined channels leading from the depression to the plate's detonation transfer holes, and has a detonation transfer port located in line with a plate's channels. The second plate has a detonation transfer port, and channels defined in its face that lead from the plate's detonation transfer port to its detonation transfer holes. Each of one plate's detonation transfer holes can be aligned with one of the second plate's detonation holes. A conduit couples the detonation transfer ports in the two plates with a pathway defined between the depression and each of the plates' detonation transfer holes. Explosive material fills the depression, all channels, all detonation transfer holes, all detonation transfer ports, and the conduit.

Compounded High Explosive Composites provide a novel family of low-cost explosives that exhibit anisotropic (directionally dependent, non-symmetric) sensitivity properties to replace current homogenous plastic bonded high explosives that are vulnerable to unwanted detonation from a variety of hazards and operating conditions. Anisotropic sensitivity behavior is largely achieved by manipulating the bulk property of critical diameter to fine-tune the compounded geometry of the explosive composite. As such, Compounded High Explosive Composites represent structural arrangements of small, spatially distributed, highly consolidated explosive units (pellets) arranged in a prescribed (but versatile) fashion in a motion and energy-dampening rubbery matrix. The compounded geometry and structural arrangement allows the explosive pellets to function cooperatively and detonate in an exemplary orientation, while ensuring the pellets do not cooperate in other directions to mitigate against known vulnerabilities and threats.

Compounded high explosive composites for impact mitigation

The present invention comprises a warhead designed to provide a number of spiraling tendrils composed of segmented rods that move in an increasing radial arc in order to defeat a target. The warhead comprises a substantially cylindrical explosive charge having a plurality of rod segments arranged circumferentially around the explosive charge in a plurality of horizontal layers. As the horizontal layers descend down the explosive charge, the rod segments are offset from those directly above and below them to create a pattern that appears to be twisted columns. The number of columns is equivalent to the number of rod segments in each horizontal layer.

The present invention is an emplacement stand for holding explosive ordnance disposal tools that comprises a support base having tapered pegs evenly spaced around the outside of the support base extending outward at a downward angle. Detachable legs may be attached to the tapered pegs or each other to increase the height of the support base. A pivot arm slides through a hollow bearing ring within the support base and a set screw connector locks the pivot arm into a specific desired position after moving the pivot arm up or down within the support base. A pivot base, having a tool cradle connected to a disc shaped surface attaches to a clevis slot within the pivot arm through a pin that allows the disc shaped surface to freely pivot about the pin within the slot. A second set screw connector locks the disc shaped surface into place within the clevis slot. An explosive ordnance disposal energetic tool, countermeasure or warhead system of various shapes and geometries may then be placed and clamped into the tool cradle.

This invention relates to a device for accurately delivering a ballistically stable, monolothic projectile at repeatable velocities to a specified target using an explosive event without causing deformation or fragmentation of the projectile. In its most preferred embodiment, the invention will deliver a projectile using an explosive event without substantial deformation or altering of the geometric shape of the projectile. This invention was specifically developed as a preferred device to render safe the firing train of the fuze mechanism of unexploded ordnance (UXO) to dispose of the UXO more safely.
