Apparatus for fanfolding media

A dual-sided two-ply direct thermal image element is provided. In one embodiment, the dual-sided two-ply direct thermal image element comprises a first substrate having a first side and a second side, and a second substrate having a first side and a second side, wherein both the first substrate and the second substrate include a thermally sensitive coating on at least a first side thereof, and wherein the second side of the first substrate is releasably attached to the second side of the second substrate.

Imaging elements for dual-sided direct thermal printing are described, generally comprising a substrate and a thermally sensitive coating on each side. Calendering is provided to produce a smoothness of 75 Bekk or greater on each side of the media product. A subcoat or base coat, e.g., of calcium carbonate or clay, may be provided on paper substrates to enhance smoothness of finish and the quality of thermal printing.

Two-sided thermal paper

A thermal paper with a fluorescent security mark printed on the thermosensitive coating that is responsive to wavelengths in the range of 200 nanometers to 400 nanometers. The mark is either printed on the thermosensitive coating directly or on an optional protective top coat positioned over the thermosensitive coating. Methods of preparing the thermal paper comprise printing a solution, dispersion or emulsion of a fluorescent compound on the thermal paper by flexographic printing.

Thermal paper with security features

The present invention is directed towards manufacturing a plurality of individual radio frequency devices from a web. The method comprises: transporting the web over a processing area; applying adhesive to the web as it is transported over the processing area; repeatedly applying sets of an antenna and a microchip to the web at spatially separated positions, as the web is transported over the processing area; longitudinally folding the web in half, thereby layering the sets of an antenna and a microchip between the two halves of the web and at least partly holding the sets of an antenna and a microchip in place by the adhesive, as the web is transported over the processing area; and cutting the folded web into individual radio frequency devices, as the web is transported over the processing area.

Method of making RFID devices

A medium for printing, such as a thermal receipt roll for an ATM. The medium has two sides, each side having a plurality of marks positioned to trigger an automatic operation, such as printing, movement, or cutting of the medium when identified by a detector. Preferably, the marks are adapted for optical sensing by a detector located along one side or the other of the roll, and are positioned at regular intervals along the side edges. This allows the roll to be used in business machines having different detector configurations.

Thermosensitive recording materials such as thermal paper have printed indicia of high quality on the back thereof printed on a backcoating. This backcoating also incorporates an optically variable compound which provides a security feature.

Thermosensitive recording materials such as thermal paper with a thermochromic composition applied to the back thereof and overcoated with a protective coating provide a security feature without pre-reacting the active compounds in the thermosensitive recording materials or causing the loss of the color-forming properties of the thermosensitive recording materials. Methods for preparing thermal papers with a thermochromic composition as a security feature apply a thermochromic printing ink to the opposite side of the thermosensitive layer of the thermal paper followed by a coating composition that forms a protective coating over the thermochromic ink. The thermochromic printing ink and coating composition are selected so as not to pre-react with the thermosensitive layer or cause the loss of the color-forming properties of the thermosensitive layer.

A thermal transfer ribbon includes a substrate which has a thermal sensitive coating and a protective coating. The thermal sensitive coating is a wax mixture dispersed in a binder mix along with pigments. The protective coating is a wax-copolymer mixture for substantially reducing or eliminating ribbon offset.

A reusable, thermal transfer ribbon includes a substrate, a functional coating consisting essentially of a carbon black emulsion, a hydrocarbon wax, and a thermoplastic resin, and a binding layer consisting essentially of a thermoplastic resin or a thermoplastic resin and a wax compound.
