An example antenna system includes a plurality of dielectric rod stacks and a control circuit. The control circuit includes a plurality of independently controlled output circuit boards. Each independently controlled output circuit board includes a respective dielectric rod stack. The respective dielectric rod stack includes a plurality of respective dielectric rods. The control circuit selects: (i) the dielectric rod stacks, and (ii) the respective dielectric rods of the respective dielectric rod stack to adjust a beam of emitted or received radio frequency (RF) waves.

Dielectric antenna array and system

The frame preamble in current wireless systems is designed to facilitate various PHY-layer functions, including frequency offset estimation and frame detection. However, this preamble is assumed to be constant and is seldom used to convey any frame-specific bits. Embedding information into the preamble can open the door for new PHY-layer applications. P-modulation, a method that enables an OFDM-based wireless transmitter to embed frame-specific bits into the frame preamble to accomplish PHY-layer applications (while remaining backward-compatible with legacy receivers), is presented.

Method for exploiting preamble waveforms to support device and network functionalities in wireless systems

A method of performing a beam alignment procedure in a mmW or upper centimeter wave system, usable for performing initial access (IA) for user equipment (UE) to establish a connection with a base station (BS) is disclosed. A UE receives a signal from a base station, divides a search space into a plurality of angular zones, locates a direction of peak received strength within each zone, and forms a beam along the direction of peak overall signal strength. The number of angular zones is chosen such that the probability that each zone contains one peak of signal strength exceeds some threshold. The method is applicable in mmW and upper cmW bands in both BS to UE and device-to-device (D2D) communications.

Method for fast beam sweeping and device discovery in 5G millimeter wave and upper centimeter-wave systems

A three-dimensional, 360 degree, omnidirectional multiple-input multiple-output wireless systems is described herein. The multiple-input multiple-output wireless system is comprised of a plurality of radio inputs, a plurality of radio-frequency converters, an RF signal distribution network, a plurality of transceivers, and a plurality of antennas. The multiple-input multiple-output wireless system may further have a plurality of planar stacks.

Systems and methods for adaptive method exploits self-interference suppression (SIS) and full-duplex (FD) capabilities in cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access (DSA) systems to enable simultaneous transmission-and-sensing (TS) or transmission-and-reception (TR) over the same frequency channel in a single operation. The adaptive methods enable secondary users or units (SUs) to switch between different modes of operation, taking into account the primary units (PUs) state, the SUs' traffic, and standards' rules. These adaptive methods significantly enhance the SU throughput and reduce the probability of colliding with PU transmissions.

Method for improving spectrum sensing and efficiency in cognitive wireless systems

Systems and methods of friendly jamming for securing wireless communications at the physical layer are presented. Under the assumption of exact knowledge of the eavesdropping channel, a resource-efficient distributed approach is used to improve the secrecy sum-rate of a multi-link network with one or more eavesdroppers while satisfying an information-rate constraint for all links. A method based on mixed strategic games can offer robust solutions to the distributed secrecy sum-rate maximization. In addition, a block fading broadcast channel with a multi-antenna transmitter, sending two or more independent confidential data streams to two or more respective users in the presence of a passive eavesdropper is considered. Lastly, a per-link strategy is considered and an optimization problem is formulated, which aims at jointly optimizing the power allocation and placement of the friendly jamming devices for a given link under secrecy constraints.

Systems and methods for securing wireless communications

Encapsulating packets includes receiving packets at a queue of an encapsulator. The following operations are repeated until certain criteria are satisfied. A number of packets are accumulated at the queue. A current encapsulation efficiency associated with the accumulated packets is determined. A next encapsulation efficiency associated with the accumulated packets and a predicted next packet is determined. If the current encapsulation efficiency satisfies an encapsulation efficiency threshold and if the current encapsulation efficiency is greater than the next encapsulation efficiency, the accumulated packets are encapsulated. Otherwise, the packets continue to be accumulated at the queue.

Method and system for encapsulating variable-size packets

Encapsulating packets into a frame includes receiving the packets at a station of a number of stations of a network. Each packet is associated with a delay requirement that reflects a deadline corresponding to at least one of the stations. The packets are directed to queues of the station. An available channel of the network is detected. It is determined that one or more packets at a queue are ready to be encapsulated into a frame in accordance with the delay requirements. The one or more packets are encapsulated into the frame for transmission using the available channel.

Encapsulating packets into a frame for a network

Encapsulating cells includes receiving cells at a queue associated with decision points. Each decision point corresponds to a number of cells and is associated with a threshold criterion. The following operations are repeated until a threshold criterion is satisfied. A number of cells corresponding to a decision point are accumulated at the queue. Jitter associated with the cells at the queue is predicted, and it is determined whether the predicted jitter satisfies the threshold criterion associated with the decision point. If the predicted jitter satisfies the threshold criterion, the cells are sent to a buffer coupled to the queue. Otherwise, the cells continue to be accumulated at the queue. The cells in the buffer are encapsulated.
