A method for inhibiting proliferation of cancer cells includes contacting the cancer cells with a cytotoxic effective amount of an anticancer compound of Formula (I); where R1 to R8 are each independently selected from a group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, and an optionally substituted alkyl. The anticancer compound exhibits an ICof from 2 micrograms per milliliters (μg/ml) to 10 μg/ml for inhibiting the proliferation and inducing the apoptosis of cancer cells.
