A shielding gasket is disclosed which may be installed between a door panel and an enclosure containing electronic equipment therein, the shielding gasket providing excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness in the space between the door panel and the enclosure. The shielding gasket includes a retaining medium for holding a corrosion-inhibiting fluid, which is bled from the retaining medium onto the outer surface of the conductive gasket over an extended period of time to provide a protective film over the interfacing dissimilar metals of the shielding gasket and the enclosure. The shielding gasket may include an elastomeric gasket to provide a moisture-proof seal, or a rigid metallic strip to support the shielding gasket.

Corrosion resistant electromagnetic shielding gasket

An attachable, ablating shield comprises a metalized sheath for fitting closely over, for covering, and for protecting an electronics section in a missile from external electromagnetic radiation, particularly from high-energy radio frequency radiation, during launch. The sheath has weakened seams so that the sheath will separate from the missile when a seam is split. The sheath splitting system comprises an explosive device located near a seam, a detector for sensing the firing of the rocket motor, and a transfer line therebetween for receiving a motor-fire signal from the detector and for transferring a corresponding signal to the explosive device to split the sheath. A preferred embodiment employs a low-explosive and a transfer line that is a high-intensity shock pulse tube. The transfer line ablates with the sheath.

Ablating electromagnetic shield sheath

A seal for a piano hinge for preventing passage of electromagnetic energy through the hinge; said seal comprising a first sealing member of conductive material comprising a connecting section for attachment to and for electrical contact with one hinge leaf and an arcuate section shaped to fit over the hinge knuckles, and a second sealing member of conductive material comprising a connecting section for attachment to and for electrical contact with another hinge leaf and an arcuate section for overlapping and for making electrical contact with the arcuate section of the first sealing member. Preferably the sealing members are of hard copper alloy. Another embodiment includes a detachable sealed hinge assembly wherein the hinge includes three leaves; an attached leaf, an insertion leaf, and an attachable leaf.

Hinge seal

An improved electro-explosive squib device is disclosed with filter/shield characteristics rendering the device substantially immune to electromagnetic environments, thus preventing accidental ignition of the squib device. The invention provides for adapting existing squibs or constructing new squibs with immunity to the electromagnetic environments while adding only a minimal amount of material to the device, thus minimizing the possibility of personnel injury caused by debris ejected from rocket propellant ignited by the squib device. These benefits are achieved while maintaining reliability and extended shelf life, and at minimal cost of conversion or manufacture of the squib devices.

Filter/shield for electro-explosive devices

A graphic aid device is disclosed which may be used with computers having a mouse-type computer cursor controller. The device provides a specific geometric orientation to the mouse, thereby enabling a tracing member attached onto or near the mouse to be used to manually trace complex figures while simultaneously and accurately transferring the complex figures to the computer memory. The device of the present invention utilizes a drawing machine arm to maintain a specific geometrical relationship of the mouse with respect to the surface over which the mouse is moved to trace the complex figure.

Tracing aid for computer graphics

A cable shield to connector back shell termination device includes a back shell of a multi-pin cable connector, a plurality of metallic tubes adapted to receive individually the end of a shielded cable such that substantially full circumferential conductive contact is maintained between each cable shield and a tube, and a cluster of such tubes conductively bonded together and shaped to fit the back shell for conductive bonding to the back shell. A second embodiment employs a conductive sleeve for conductive mounting on the cable shield. Ridges or fins extending generally lengthwise on the sleeve frictionally, conductively contact the metal tubes. In this manner an uninterrupted conductive surface is maintained at the connector. The connector enclosure thus provides a shield against the intrusion of electromagnetic energy in the environment in which the electrical or electronic wiring and circuits must operate.

Cable shield to connector termination device

A dielectric heat sensor system for monitoring and measuring the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the performance or physical integrity of an electrical or electronic component includes a dielectric receiver in the form of a rectilinear array of fiber optic ends positioned to receive infrared heat waves from a bridgewire of an electro-explosive device and transmitting the infrared heat waves by way of a waveguide of electro optic fibers to an infrared detecting unit which is effective to activate an indicator.

Dielectric heat sensor

A solar heat collector utilizing an elongated vertical mast to support a rectangular parabolic reflector and a transparent cover. The mast is located at the focal point of the parabolic reflector, and the fluid to be heated enters the unit at the bottom, is partially heated as it rises by convection, enters the mast at the upper portion thereof, and is transported downward while being further heated due to the mast focal point location. The unit is rotatable about the mast to maximize heat transfer.

Solar heat collector

A flat slip ring which is larger in diameter than a conventional slip ring/brush assembly is attached to the rotatable unit concentric with and facing axially with respect to the shaft to carry the conventional slip ring/brush assembly. A circular brush is mounted on the housing of the slip ring/brush assembly concentric with the shaft and facing the flat slip ring. An electrically conductive spring urges the circular brush into contact with the flat slip ring and provides a low impedance ground from the rotatable unit to the housing of the slip ring/brush assembly.

Slip ring assembly

Apparatus for protecting the primers of electrically ignitable ammunition from accidental firing due to electrostatic charge build up and electromagnetic radiation. In one arrangement, the insulation between the primer cap and the metal case of the ammunition round is short-circuited with a conductive coating which covers the primer and base of the round. In a second arrangement, a conductive coating is used in the same fashion, but it is applied over a previously applied dot of non-conductive paint which covers a small area encompassing the primer and adjacent portion of the cartridge casing. Still another arrangement utilizes a circular metal foil affixed across the base of the casing with conductive cement that is applied only along the outer periphery. If desired, the metal foil may be supported on a protective layer of Mylar or the like.

Electromagnetic hazard suppression techniques

A system having a plurality of parallel tuned receiver channels, wherein a normalized phase relationship is maintained in the respective channels between amplified pulsed high frequency carrier signals having a given frequency is disclosed. Each of a plurality of parallel channels for receiving pulsed high frequency carrier signals from disparate sources includes a tuned frequency amplifier for amplifying a given frequency component of a signal in the channel within a predetermined bandwith. A continuous wave reference signal having the given frequency is inserted into each channel before the input of the tuned frequency amplifier. For each channel a phase comparator compares the phase of the reference signal components of the amplified signal with the phase of the reference signal; and a phase adjuster controlled by the phase comparator responds to the phase comparison by adjusting the phase of the signal that is provided to the amplifier. A separate switch is connected to each channel for providing the amplified signal to the phase comparator for that channel. A pulse detector and processor circuit receives the amplified signal from the plurality of channels and detects a coherent pulsed signal when such is present in any of the amplified signals received from the separate channels. A switching control logic circuit is connected to the signal detector and processor circuit, for enabling the generation of the reference signal, and for enabling the switches to provide the amplified signals in the plurality of channels to all of the respective channel phase comparators simultaneously during a predetermined interval in response to detection of the coherent pulsed signal by the pulse detector and processor circuit, thereby causing the phase adjustments in the separate channels to be made simultaneously to normalize the phase shift between the reference signal and the amplified signals in the plurality of channels.

Phase-normalized parallel tuned receiver channel system

An electrical connector having means for suppressing electromagnetic interference when the connector pins are separated from the pin sockets. To this end, each of the connector pins or each pin socket is contained in an electrically conductive housing. The housing forms an open space about and extending beyond each pin or socket. This open space forms a waveguide having a predetermined upper cutoff frequency. This cutoff frequency depends on the length of the waveguide measured from the tip of each pin or socket to the end of the waveguide and on the diameter or largest dimension of the waveguide, which may be a cylindrical waveguide. Each of the corresponding pin sockets has an outer insulation tube which fits into the open waveguide. Further, each pin socket is provided with a spring contact for making electrical connection to the respective connector pins. The cutoff frequency of the waveguide is selected to be substantially above the highest frequency of the expected electromagnetic interference.

Suppressor for electromagnetic interference

An adjustable display having interworking parts whereby upon manipulation interference frequencies emitted from spurious harmonic and imaged electromagnetic radiators interfering with an intended or expected bracketed received frequency can be isolated and identified for later corrective action, such as elimination of the interference frequencies. A method for establishing emitted frequencies which might interfere with expected or intended targeted received frequencies in a receiver is also described and taught.
