Disclosed is a thermoplastic composition including (A) a polyamide resin independently selected from the group consisting of Group (I) Polyamides having a melting point of at least 260&#xb0; C., and comprising (a) greater than 95 mole percent semiaromatic repeat units and (b) less than 5 mole percent aliphatic repeat units; (B) 0 to 60 weight percent of one or more reinforcement agents; and (C) 0 to 50 weight percent of one or more a polymeric tougheners; wherein the weight percentages are based on the total weight of said thermoplastic composition; and wherein said polyamide resin has at least 50 meq/Kg of acid ends.

Disclosed is a polyamide composition including at least one semi-aromatic copolyamide, said semi-aromatic copolyamide consisting essentially of about 25 to about 55 mole percent repeat units of the formula&#x2014;C(O)(CH)C(O)NHCHArCHNH&#x2014;&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)and about 45 to about 75 mole percent repeat units of the formula&#x2014;C(O)(CH)C(O)NH(CH)NH&#x2014;&#x2003;&#x2003;(II)wherein m is 8, 10, and/or 12, n is 6, 10 and/or 12 and Ar is a meta-substituted benzene ring; and said polyamide has a melting point equal to or less than 225&#xb0; C.; and 0.25 to 20 weight percent of one or more polyhydroxy polymer(s) having a number average molecular weight of at least 2000 and selected from the group consisting of ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and poly(vinyl alcohol). Also disclosed are molded or extruded articles including the polyamide composition.

Polyamide compositions with improved salt resistance and heat stability

Flame resistant aromatic polyamide resin composition and articles therefrom

This invention deals with the development of improved SMT performance flame retardant polyamide compositions. The compositions include replacing the poly bromostyrene or brominated polystyrene with a copolymer of a halostyrene and glycidyl(meth)acrylate. The resulting composition results in greatly improved blistering performance in Surface Mounting Technology Applications.

Flame-retardant polyamide compositions

Certain polyamide molding compositions are disclosed having improved flame resistance and heat stability. These compositions comprise in weight percent, 20-78% polyamide having a melting point of 280-340&deg; C.; 10-60% inorganic filler; 10-35% flame retardant (brominated or chlorinated); 1-10% antimony compound; 1-10% of one or more oxides, hydroxides, or salts of weak mineral acids, and combinations thereof; and 0-2% heat stabilizer.

Thermally stable flame retardant polyamides

This invention relates to flame retardants for polyester and polyamide compositions, and specifically relates to compositions containing (1) about 30 to about 70 weight percent of a polyester or a synthetic, aliphatic polyamide and synthetic aliphatic, aromatic polyamide copolymers or a mixture thereof; (2) about 15 to about 40 weight percent of glass or mineral reinforcing agent; and (3) a flame retardant of (a) about 5 to about 45 weight percent of melamine polyphosphate; (b) about 15 to about 30 weight percent of melamine polyphosphate and up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst; (c) about 15 to about 30 weight percent of melamine polyphosphate, up to about 10 weight percent of a charring catalyst and up to about 10 weight percent of a char former, wherein all percents by weight are based on the total weight of (1)+(2)+(3) only.

Flame retardant resin compositions

Disclosed herein are compositions containing an aliphatic polyamide, a selected tungstic acid or its salt, and a coagent such as melamine cyanurate. These compositions exhibit good fire resistance and good physical toughness, particularly good elongation, and are useful as molding resins. The reaction product of a tungstic acid and melamine may alternatively be incorporated.

Fire resistant polyamide compositions
