Methods and apparatus are disclosed for near field radio-frequency (RF) testing of devices, particularly user equipment (UEs) capable of millimeter-wave (mmWave) transmissions. An exemplary test apparatus is described that uses a transducer to facilitate near field over-the-air testing of UEs in the mmWave transmission band. The transducer may be an orthomode transducer and may include a dual-polarity port positioned in the reactive near field of an antenna of a device under test (DUT). For UE signal transmission tests, the orthomode transducer splits test signals received from the antenna of the DUT via the dual-polarity port into a pair of single-polarity RF signals. The single-polarity RF signals are separately fed through a pair of waveguide-to-coaxial adaptors into separate coaxial cables, which feed coaxial transmission versions of the single-polarity RF signals to test equipment for analysis. UE signal reception tests are also described that utilize the same or different orthomode transducer.

Near field wireless communication device testing using dual-polarity transducer

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for testing millimeter wave devices. The method includes determining a reference antenna response of the DUT for at least one antenna of a test chamber, generating one or more fading coefficients for the at least one antenna based on the determined reference antenna response, applying the generated one or more fading coefficients to at least one signal, and transmitting the at least one signal via the at least one antenna to the DUT in the test chamber.

Methods and apparatus for testing millimeter wave devices

In a wireless communication system, a method for configuring multiple antennas of a receiver may include configuring a primary antenna of the multiple antennas with a narrow band filter passing a selected uplink channel, and configuring a secondary antenna of the multiple antennas with a broad band filter passing multiple uplink channels. The receiver may sense the power of the multiple uplink channels received via the secondary antenna for use in controlling downlink power. Broad band configuration of the secondary antenna may be intermittent, interspersed with a narrow band filter configuration for diversity reception. The receiver may determine which of the multiple antennas is primary by sensing which antenna is receiving the strongest signal on the selected uplink channel. Different levels of automatic gain control may be applied to signals from respective different ones of the multiple antennas.

Variable diversity RX bandwidth for self-organizing networks

A wireless communication system is provided that detects a frequency burst (FB) through analysis of the autocorrelation function of received signals. The system can accommodate the relatively large frequency offsets that are associated with less expensive reference frequency crystals. The system employs a multi-mode filter including an FB filter and a channelization filter. In one embodiment, the FB filter is employed until an FB is located and then, once the FB is located, the channelization filter is employed to receive signals.

Wireless communication system and method with frequency burst acquisition feature using autocorrelation

A wireless communication system is provided that detects a frequency burst (FB) through analysis of the autocorrelation function of received signals. The system can accommodate the relatively large frequency offsets that are associated with less expensive reference frequency crystals. In one embodiment, the system includes FB search hardware that operates in two modes, namely an FB location mode with narrowband interference (e.g. CW or continuous wave) detection and an FB location mode without such narrowband interference detection, depending on whether a CW signal (carrier or other narrowband interferer) is present or not.

Wireless communication system and method with frequency burst acquisition feature using autocorrelation and narrowband interference detection

A method and system for objectively evaluating the quality of speech in a voice communication system. A plurality of speech reference vectors is first obtained based on a plurality of clean speech samples. A corrupted speech signal is received and processed to determine a plurality of distortions derived from a plurality of distortion measures based on the plurality of speech reference vectors. The plurality of distortions are processed by a non-linear neural network model to generate a subjective score representing user acceptance of the corrupted speech signal. The non-linear neural network model is first trained on clean speech samples as well as corrupted speech samples through the use of backpropagation to obtain the weights and bias terms necessary to predict subjective scores from several objective measures.

Method and system for objectively evaluating speech

A method is disclosed for identifying corrupted speech signals in a call receiving mode of a voice messaging system. The method includes the step of receiving a message signal. The message signal represents an audio message. The method next includes the step of determining a signal quality. The signal quality is then compared to a threshold. If the signal quality is at least as great as the threshold, the audio data representing the message signal is stored in a memory. If the signal quality is not as great as the threshold, an indication signal is transmitted indicating that the signal quality is poor. A system is also disclosed for implementing the steps of the method.
