A single disk opener blade is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis offset approximately seven degrees from the transverse direction. A seed tube extends closely adjacent the disk blade forwardly of the rotational axis generally in the shadow of the leading edge of the blade. The tube is angled around the disk blade hub to provide a narrow profile and to reduce the vertical velocity of the material deposited in the furrow. A furrow-firming and blade-scraping extension is connected to the lower end of the tube and extends rearwardly to a location behind the axis. The side of the firming extension is located transversely beyond the shadow of the disk blade to help form one side of the seed trench and to permit the seed to settle in the trench. Depth control structure includes a wheel support arm fixed to one end of the disk blade spindle and a quadrant fixed to the opposite end of the spindle for selectively adjusting the arm. A depth control wheel is mounted on the arm about an axis offset from the axis of the disk blade for rotation against the leading side of the blade to clean the blade, hold down trash and dirt, and provide positive depth control.

Conservation opener

A fore-and-aft extending transport hitch frame carried on a pair of ground wheels supports the innermost ends of a pair of end wheel wing drills and tows a trailing end wheel drill between the wing drills. The wing drills are connected to rearwardly angled upright pivot structures on the hitch frame by hinged bracket structure which causes the innermost ends of the wing drills to lift as the drills are pivoted forwardly toward a transport position. The forward end of the hitch frame is lifted to raise the outboard ends of the wing drills for transport. During planting operations the ground wheels effectively act as the inboard end wheels for the wing drills. The wing drills can rock vertically about the bracket structure hinge for good flexibility in the field-working position.

Implement transport hitch

Agricultural hopper structure for containing two different granular materials such as seed and fertilizer. Two molded plastic containers are nested together and supported on a frame. The nested ends of the containers are concave and convex, respectively, to provide a symmetrical appearance while establishing unequal container capacity. The nested containers include a downwardly directed ledge structure freely resting on a corresponding upwardly facing load-bearing surface of the frame to reduce the number of fixed attaching points. The upper portions of the containers extend above the frame and have outwardly convex sidewalls. The hopper structure is fabricated by first nesting the containers and then lowering the nested containers onto the frame.

Agricultural hopper structure

A two-wheeled trailer hitch supporting two three-point hitch mounted implements side-by-side for field operation. The implements are mounted on outriggers which are foldable forwardly to narrow the unit for transport. A pair of rigid diagonal drag links movable fore-and-aft by a cylinder-activated slide block is connected to the outriggers for pivoting them approximately ninety degrees between the field and transport positions. Lift frame structures selectively engage the three-point hitch linkages to raise the implements on the respective outriggers. The lift frame structure is disengaged from the linkages when the implements are lowered for greater flexibility in the field-working position.

Multiple implement hitch and transport

A grinder-mixer having a trough-shaped mixing tank, a horizontal transfer and mixing auger seated along the bottom of the tank and extending into the hammer mill, and a vertical auger in the tank for elevating the material for recirculation or discharge. Mixing capacity is increased with the larger tank and bridging of material is minimized with steeply inclined tank walls, a centrally mounted agitator and the trough-mounted mixing auger. Power train demands are reduced through utilizing only two auger conveyors to transfer material from the hammer mill, mix it in the tank and elevate it for recirculation or discharge. Improved intermixing is provided through stepped pitch flights provided on the horizontal mixing auger.

Feed grinding and mixing apparatus

Compressed livestock feed such as hay in stack form is severed from the stack, dislodged and transferred to the side of the stack for feeding. A stack is loaded on the stack mover bed and advanced to a position partially underlying the feeding conveyor. The conveyor is then activated and lowered. Conveyor mounted blades sever the underlying stack portion from the stack and a conveyor mounted raking device dislodges the severed stack portion and transfers it to the side of the stack for discharging.
