To perform an inter-technology handoff, an indicator in a service request message is received by a mobile switching center (MSC). The indicator is to indicate to the MSC that an inter-technology handoff from a packet-data wireless access network to a circuit wireless access network has been requested. The behavior of the MSC is modified in response to the indicator to reduce the communication silence during the inter-technology handoff.

Reducing communication silence when performing inter-technology handoff

A method and system of delivering a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message is disclosed. In one example, the method includes providing a storage location and time duration for outside content to be indirectly referenced by an MMS message. Receiving and storing the outside content via a transport network is also disclosed. The method may include encapsulating an MMS message in a payload of a transport message with the MMS message indirectly referencing the storage location of the outside content. Delivery of the transport message may occur over a transport network. Confirming receipt of the transport message is also disclosed.

Multimedia message delivery in a communication system

An Anchor Mobile Switching Center emulation (MSCe) and a Target MSCe are described herein that take part in an intersystem handoff of a Mobile Station (MS) which is in communication with a B-party. Upon the MS establishing a connection with the Target MSCe, the Anchor MSCe may perform SDP offer/answer exchange between the Target network and the B-Party for the purpose of codec renegotiation to correct a transcoding incompatibility or to enhance the voice bearer path characteristics or to minimize the number of transcodings in the bearer path, between the two parties. The Anchor MSCe and the Target MSCe both support Advanced Legacy Mobile Station Domain (ALMSD) implying that only the SIP transport is used for intersystem handoff communications.

A method and system are provided for denying an application service request, such as a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) request, on wireless and wireline Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) networks. In one example, the method includes receiving a request for an application service from a user via a transport network, determining to deny the request, and providing a response corresponding to the denial of the request to the user via the transport network.

A machine-to-machine application server may provide a machine-to-machine application. A machine-to-machine application identification from a machine-to-machine service device may be provided at the machine-to-machine application server. The machine-to-machine application identification may identify a machine-to-machine application provided by the machine-to-machine application server, and the machine-to-machine application identification may identify a communication path between the wireless device and the machine-to-machine application server. Service may be provided according to the machine-to-machine application from the machine-to-machine application server to the machine-to-machine service device using the machine-to-machine application identification to identify the communications path between the machine-to-machine application server and the machine-to-machine service device.

Methods of operating networks, application servers, and wireless devices supporting machine-to-machine applications

A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) of a CDMA telecommunications wireless network which includes a CDMA mobile station (MS), a CDMA base station (BS), a CDMA HLR, and an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) Gateway. The MSC is capable of receiving a MS initiated USSD request from the BS, determining if the subscriber is authorized to use USSD services and if authorized constructing a MAP message containing the USSD Request which is then sent to a USSD Gateway identified by subscriber profile information received during registration. The MSC is also capable of identifying MAP messaging it receives that contains USSD messaging, constructing an IOS message that contains the USSD messaging and sending the IOS message to the BS which in turn sends it to the MS.

Methods for multiple-termination routing in a wireless network environment that includes an Internet Protocol ('IP') core are described herein. One method includes receiving a call delivery request. The call delivery request includes a called number. The call features associated with the called number are determined. A determination is made whether the call features include multiple-termination routing information for a plurality of potential terminating devices. When the call features include the multiple-termination routing information including at least one termination to be routed utilizing Session Initiation Protocol ('SIP'), a call setup is initiated to each of the plurality of potential terminating devices.

Multiple-termination routing in a wireless network environment with an internet protocol core

A system and method to provide call delivery to an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network for a Mobile Directory Number (MDN) homed in a second generation (2G) wireless network, without requiring Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) operations and associated Mobile Switching Center emulation (MSCe) translations for routing the call request. A Home Location Register (HLR) determines whether the subscriber has subscribed to the IMS services. The HLR-based subscriber profile is enhanced with new IMS-related subscriber information. Enhanced American National Standards Institute-41 (ANSI-41) Mobile Application Part (MAP) operations and a new ANSI-41 parameter allow the MSCe to re-route the call origination request from a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to an entry point for the IMS network based upon the new IMS-related subscriber information received from the HLR. A Domain Name Server (DNS) supports routing-related traffic distribution.

Call delivery to an IMS network for a mobile directory number homed in a 2G wireless network

A single radio multimode mobile (SRMMM) of a circuit-switched radio access technology (RAT) network and a packet data radio access technology (RAT) network including a network interface unit attached to the packet data RAT network through which an active packet data session is maintained. The SRMMM includes a processing unit in communication with a network interface unit. The SRMMM includes a display on which the processing unit displays a calling party number associated with a circuit switched page request for a voice call. A method of allowing a subscriber of a single radio multimode mobile (SRMMM) of a circuit-switched radio access technology (RAT) network and a packet data radio access technology (RAT) network to view a calling party number including comprises the steps of attaching a network interface unit to the packet data RAT network through which an active packet data session is maintained. There is the step of displaying on a display a calling party number associated with a circuit switched page request for a voice call by a processing unit.

Method and apparatus for allowing a subscriber to view the calling party number for a circuit switched voice call page while attached to a packet data network

The present invention provides for the discovery of an Internet Protocol (IP) address of an application server associated with an IP network. An IP device is granted access to an IP network. Access to the IP network assumes an IP address assignment for the IP device. The network domain name is discovery by performing a Reverse DNS query on the assigned IP address or an IP address associated with the IP network device granting access to the IP device. Using a application server domain name (derived from the network domain name) a DNS query is perform to determine all IP addresses associated with the application server domain name.
