In a conveying apparatus for castings in a cleaning device, there are tooth-type casting holders which rotate about a horizontal or slightly inclined axis and comprise two gripping parts of which the upper part serves as a tension member for tensioning the casting piece, while the lower stationary gripping part is comprised of two or more supports for the casting that promote the cleaning operation by means of a revolving movement. The supports are positioned at an angle to the axis of rotation and are spaced by substantially equal distances at both sides. These supports hold the casting in a corresponding angular position relative to the axis of rotation. The upper gripping part can comprise one or more pendulously supported beams which, in the tensioning position, transmit tensioning or securing forces to the casting. In this respect, the tooth-type casting holder performs not only a transportation and rotational movement, but also can transmit to the casting a vibratory movement by means of a roller of a vibrator. The tooth-type casting holder includes a bearing ring rotatably symmetric about the axis of rotation and by means of which the rollers of the vibrator are rotated during the rotational movement.

Conveyor apparatus for castings in a cleaning device

In a foundry apparatus for clearing sand from castings comprising a conveyor and a supporter for the castings and for moving them from the conveyor into an abrasive blasting cabinet (or other sand removing unit) while turning the castings about a horizontal axis, in order to make transport simpler and to make certain that even complex castings are completely cleaned, a transport unit is used for taking up and supporting the castings and is supported on the supporter. The transport unit has a platform-like lower support in the form of a grid to be joined to the supporter by mating parts on the supporter and on the lower support. The mating parts are designed to keep the lower support in a generally horizontal position. The transport unit further is designed for forming a basket with a keeper element on the supporter and the basket is able to be opened and shut.

Transport unit for castings

A machine for the blast cleaning of castings has a drum with a top opening through which abrasive from overhead abrasive throwing wheels is directed onto castings in the drum. The drum is oscillated about its axis through an angle of about 120.degree. and has two floor parts with an angle somewhat less than this between them. Oscillation of the drum makes for tumbling of the casting resting on the floor. The wall of the drum, in addition to the floor parts, has inwardly sloping parts next to the opening. The wall is made up of bars wedge-joined to support rings, sound being absorbed by rubber strips between them and the rings.

Cleaning machine for castings

The apparatus comprises one or more blasting cabins through which are conveyed workpiece carriers in the form of grate bars secured only at one end to a conveyor chain. A shifting device transfers workpieces from a first to a second conveyor for a second pass through such cabin. A turning device turns the workpieces over during such transfer. Said device comprises a box which is rotated about a horizontal axis and chutes each workpiece onto the second conveyor.

Apparatus for blasting castings

Workpiece carriers in the form of self-locking tongs are provided in a blasting machine having a blasting chamber, a charging station and a discharging station. The carriers are mounted overhung on individual support structures which are movable laterally outside the blasting chamber to transport workpieces within the chamber. Tongs comprising a support rod on the axis of rotation of the carrier, and a transverse gripper rod which is movable for clamping the workpiece, are particularly suitable for carrying cylinder block workpieces and for the charging and discharging operations. The machine may have several treatment stations which may be arranged in line or on a circle. Various drive means are described, as are means for recirculating the said support structures and means for blasting workpieces from below and from above.

Blasting machine

A machine for blasting workpieces (castings) comprises an arcuate cabin with successive working stations within it. Two conveying systems are provided -- a central turntable with workpiece carriers which are rotatable about horizontal axes and extend into the cabin through a horizontal slot, and an overhead conveyor with workpiece reception hooks which extend through a slot in the roof of the cabin. The axes of the workpiece carriers on the turntable may be made capable of swivelling in a vertical plane. Various drive arrangements are described, including control by limit switches and a timing relay. Entry and exit lock chambers and door arrangements are described.
