Coke including additives that are accumulated at the yield points or in the regions surrounded by the yield points. For homogeneous distribution, the additives are continuously dosed into the delayed coker during the filling time. The dosing can be carried out by powdery blowing with an inert gas (nitrogen) or also distributed in a slurry consisting of the reaction components and a partial flow of the coker feed (vacuum resid, pytar, decant oil or coal-tar distillates). According to an advantageous form of embodiment, the additives may optionally have a diameter of between 0.05 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm. Advantageously, the additives can be selected from at least one of acetylene coke, fluid coke, flexi coke, shot coke, carbon black, non-graphitisable carbons (chars), non-graphitic anthracite, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, titanium diboride or mixtures thereof.

A method produces a molded part from carbon containing carbon fibers in an amount of less than 20% by weight. The method includes comminuting waste parts or scrap parts formed from a carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic material, a carbon fiber reinforced carbon or a carbon fiber reinforced concrete. A mixture is produced from the comminuted product, a binder such as pitch, a carbon material such as coke and optionally one or more additives, wherein the mixture contains less than 20% by weight of fibers. The mixture is molded into a molded part and the molded part is carbonized. Optionally, the molded carbonized part is impregnated with an impregnating agent. Finally and optionally, the molded carbonized part or the molded part impregnated part is graphitized.

A carbon-containing nipple has a nipple thread for carbon-containing electrodes. The nipple has an inlet formed in the nipple thread and the inlet is suitable for receiving an adhesive container filled with a curable adhesive. Preferably, the inlet is a groove which runs through the nipple thread in a transverse manner and is undercut at least in sections. A nipple kit contains such a nipple and the adhesive container containing the adhesive for securing a nipple/electrode connection, wherein the adhesive container is disposed in the inlet. The nipple kit can be used in conjunction with a carbon-containing electrode for use in arc furnaces.

The method determines a weight of an electrode column, which is arranged in the electric furnace or is to be introduced into the electric furnace, using a weighing device. A device for determining the consumption of electrode material of an electric furnace, particularly an arc furnace for producing steel, is provided for performing the method. The device contains a weighing device for determining the weight of at least one electrode column which is arranged in the electric furnace or is to be introduced into the electric furnace, wherein the weighing device is integrated in an operating device of a system containing the electric furnace. Vibration conditions of the electrode column during operation of the electric furnace can also be determined with the method and with the device.

A process for the preparation of latent heat storage composites is provided. The process comprises the steps of preparation of an expanded graphite material with a bulk density between 5 and 200 grams/liter which is readily wetted by a liquid phase change material, preparation of a pre-compressed matrix or a packed bed of the expanded graphite material, and manufacture of a latent heat storage composite by infiltration of the matrix or a packed bed with a phase change material in a liquid state.

The cathode slots receiving the collector bar are lined with expanded graphite lining thus providing longer useful lifetime of such cathodes and increased cell productivity. During the spraying, the two-dimensional formation is electrically contacted on a limited area virtually in the middle of its rear side, facing away from the spraying direction, on a limited area at a distance of at least 5 mm from the edges. A latent heat storage material is in the form of a composite material formed of a phase-change material to store latent heat and graphite flakes incorporated therein to improve thermal conductivity. The graphite flakes are distinguished by a high aspect ratio and a high anisotropy of thermal conductivity. The volume content of graphite flakes in the latent heat storage material is between 10 and 40%. The composite material can be obtained by mixing the components or infiltrating a bed containing graphite flakes with a liquid phase-change material. The graphite flakes are preferably aligned during mixing with the phase-change material by shaking or tamping, etc., so that the thermal conductivity in the direction that is advantageous for the individual application is maximized. A friction disc, in particular a brake or clutch disc, includes carbon fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material with at least one top surface formed as a friction surface. At least part of the friction surface is formed of a different material, in particular of a carbon-containing material. The different material exhibits lower wear and oxidation resistance than that of the rest of the friction surface and a supporting zone of the friction disc. A visual, audible or mechanical signal is produced under operating conditions due to comparatively greater wear. The signal provides a warning that the service life of the friction disc is being exceeded. A process for producing the friction disc is also provided.
