The application relates to a method for operating a traffic splitter provided for a data packet flow flowing through the data plane. The data packet flow is received and it is determined whether the data packet flow should be transmitted through an Evolved Packet Core, EPC, processing path or through a Software Defined Network, SDN, processing path based on information provided in the data packets of the data packet flow and it is transmitted either through the EPC processing path or the SDN processing path based on the determination.

Traffic splitter for user plane in mobile networks

A call to a dual mode user equipment is handled by using a further access network from cellular telecommunications access network. An indication of an incoming call to the user equipment is received in a control node that the device can be reached via a device using session initiation protocol (SIP) via the cellular telecommunication access network. The device using SIP sends messages to a device that transforms messages sent according to call control signaling protocol used in the cellular telecommunications network into messages according to SIP. A route to the SIP device is linked to a device that transforms user plane according to protocol in the cellular telecommunications access network into user plane according to internet protocol and vice versa.

Operating and supporting dual mode user equipment

The invention relates to a technique for selecting a framing format to be used for communications on the user plane of a layered communications network. The selection technique includes the provision of a first user plane component (such as a media gateway, MGW) bridging transmission regimes and operable in accordance with two or more different framing formats. The first user plane component is controllable via control messages received from a control plane without being responsive to any framing format instructions possibly included in the control messages. The first user plane component or any other user plane equipment in communication with the first user plane component selects the framing format to be used for user plane communications. The selected framing format is then implemented by the first user plane component for communications with a second user plane component.

The method includes receiving positional information indicating the geographical location of the mobile terminal, receiving routing information being associated with a network node of a second type to which the mobile terminal is attached, determining, based on the positional information, the network node of the first type via which the connectivity plane message is to be routed to the mobile terminal, and routing the connectivity plane message to the mobile terminal via the selected network node of the first type.

Frame quality information is transmitted and updated within a core network (CN) and a RAN downlink to UE. In the CN, CRC checks are done and the FQC field is set according to the results of the CRC check and the received FQC field's value, and transferred to the next node in the communication path. A server, or servers, instruct(s) MGWs and RNCs within the communications path to apply CRC checks and generate the FQC field according to the received FQC field and the applied CRC check. The lu framing protocol is used to transfer the FQC between the CN and RNC. A radio protocol, such as RRC protocol, is used between the RNC and the mobile to transport the FQC field in the downlink to the UE. Within the CN, the FQC field is transported over the Nb interface.

End-to-end frame quality classification

The invention relates to a method and logical units for providing services in a mobile communication system. In the mobile communication system a number of calls are handled for one user. The calls may have different bearer capabilities. In case a further call with its bearer capability requests a set-up, either another parallel call can be set-up or a call can be put on hold or can be disconnected or can be put in a waiting stage. Further to this the bearer capabilities of the number n+1 of calls are checked in order to determine whether any of the n calls have the same bearer capabilities. Further to this it is checked whether any of the calls fulfills bearer requirements and can be taken on hold. The invention enables full support of the advantages of a communication network with separated call control and bearer control when interfacing with a further network with monolithic signalling. The invention also increases the flexibility of an existing payload connection, especially in the case of a malfunction. The invention uses the existing signalling protocols to transfer further information. Basically, information elements and methods to interpret the transferred information are stored in the receivers and senders of the information. This enables the receivers and senders of information to transmit more information than originally planned when the protocols where designed. So it is possible to identify a combination of a payload transmission device and a control node instead of a single device only. It is further possible, to identify an assignment as a further assignment. This allows the change of a current assignment for a radio access controller.

The invention herein relates to implementation of basic call setup for GSM/UMTS core networks, including supplementary services CFU, CFB, CFNREA, CFNRY, CW, HOLD and MPTY, with transporting Media Gateway address and logical point coding and framing information in a forward direction in cellular networks with separation of call control and bearer control.
