A catheter coupling has a tubing and two jaws extending in the longitudinal direction of the tubing which form a channel having an orifice to accommodate an end section of a catheter when the jaws abut against each other. The jaws are interconnected at a respective jaw end via a jaw joint having a joint axis extending transversely to the tubing. The other jaw end includes a snap-in locking member and a counter snap-in locking member, respectively, interacting therewith to form a snap-in locking arrangement. In the engagement position, the tubing is deformed by at least one jaw deformation component to securely accommodate the catheter. The coupling has at least one inspection window that allows a stop in the tubing for the end section of the catheter to be visually inspected to prevent an end section of the catheter from being introduced into the tubing if it is too short.

Cannula connector

A spinal cannula with a needle hub having a transparent area for observing the liquor flowing through a hollow cavity of the needle hub. A structure for refracting or reflecting rays of light is provided in or at the transparent area of the needle hub. The structure for refracting or reflecting rays of light may be formed as one or more prisms.

The catheter provided in accordance with aspects of the present invention includes an elongate tube having a proximal tube portion and a distal tube portion formed by stretching the distal portion of the elongate tube. The catheter is made throughout from an identical material. The distal tube portion has a reduced outer diameter and thus is of a higher flexibility and softness. Therefore, the danger of injuries to vessels or the dura is decreased. The catheter can be produced in an inexpensive and simple manner.

If the administering part ( ) is a filter with transparent housing the filter membrane is well visible since the latter is not covered by adhesive strips when the filter is fastened to the patient's body.

Device for administering liquids to a patient

The catheter coupling is intended for providing the proximal end of a catheter with a plug connector forming a fluid transfer connection. The catheter coupling comprises two pivotable jaws enclosing a wavy channel. One of the jaws is provided with a hose in which the catheter may be inserted. When the other jaw is closed, the hose and the catheter is deformed to a wave-shape without any significant change in cross section. Thus, the catheter is secured against being pulled out.

A filter for medical fluids comprises a hydrophilic membrane ( ) dividing the filter into an inlet chamber ( ) and an outlet chamber ( ). This prevents air from penetrating the outlet chamber ( ). The air retained in the inlet chamber ( ) is discharged through vent holes ( ). Each vent hole ( ) is covered with a hydrophobic membrane ( ). According to the invention one of the vent holes ( ) is provided in a front wall ( ) opposite the hydrophilic membrane ( ). The other vent hole ( ) is provided in a rear wall ( ) located opposite the front wall ( ) so that the two vent holes ( ) point in opposite directions. Owing to this arrangement of the two vent holes ( ) one vent hole ( ) points upwards irrespective of the filter position. This improves venting of the inlet chamber ( ).

The urine measuring device comprises at the lower end of a drip chamber ( ) an antireflux valve which prevents liquid from a measuring chamber ( ) from refluxing into the drip chamber ( ). A valve plate ( ) capable of closing the valve opening ( ) comprises a loose part which is loosely arranged in the valve chamber ( ) and rests on a bracket ( ) when the urine measuring device is in upright position. If the urine measuring device is tilted, the urine contained in the measuring chamber ( ) presses the valve plate ( ) against the valve seat ( ) so that reflux into the drip chamber ( ) is prevented.

The urine measuring device comprises a holder (25) to be attached to the bed, which is provided with a measuring container (10) and a collecting bag (33). The measuring container (10) includes an overflow connection (22) which forms, together with the connecting tube (23) of the holder (25), a tube coupling (40). For emptying purposes the measuring container (10) can be swung up about the axis of the tube coupling (40). The urine is then discharged from the measuring container through the overflow connection (22) and the connecting tube (23) of the holder (25) into the collecting bag (33). Subsequently the empty measuring container (10) merely needs to be swung back into its position of use. This facilitates emptying of the measuring container since the container needs not be removed and attached again.

A suction device for body fluids comprises a container (10) being airtightly closable by means of a cover (11). A bag (14) is connected to a cylindrical projection (12) of the cover (11) by means of a support ring (13). A suction opening (15) is provided in the cover (11) to produce a low pressure in the bag (14). Furthermore, the suction opening (15) comprises a branching (31) to produce a low pressure in the container (10) as well. Additionally, the cover (11) comprises an outlet opening (17) enclosed by a hollow body (37). The hollow body (37) can be pushed into the container (10) to empty the bag (14) so that the fluid contained in the bag (14) can be poured out via openings (40, 41) of the hollow cylinder (37).
