A head for an oral-care implement having a longitudinal axis and comprises a bristle carrier having at least one tuft hole and at least one tuft being fixed in said tuft hole by an anchor. The at least one tuft comprises at least one filament having a longitudinal axis and a non-circular cross-sectional area extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The at least one filament is bent around the anchor so that a first limb and a second limb extend from the bristle carrier. The first limb comprises a first free end, and the second limb comprises a second free end. Each free end is twisted around the longitudinal axis by a twisting angle &#x3b1; of about 80&#xb0; to about 100&#xb0;, preferably about 90&#xb0;.

A personal grooming appliance has an energy source, an electronic circuit comprising at least one electric load, and a first sensor for providing a first signal indicating a relevant change of a first external condition. The appliance is arranged to stay in a sleep mode in which the electronic circuit consumes at least a reduced average energy amount in comparison to an active mode and to initiate the active mode when the first signal indicating a change of the first external condition is received. The electronic circuit can be arranged to perform a welcome routine in response to a first active mode initialization and a standard routine, different to the welcome routine, in response to receiving the first signal indicating a relevant change in the first external condition after the welcome routine has been performed. The first sensor can be a light sensor, a resistance sensor, a humidity sensor, a gas sensor, or a temperature sensor. A personal grooming appliance unit comprising the personal grooming appliance in combination with a packaging that houses the appliance can include the first sensor that is sensitive to a change of the packaging condition comprising an opening of the packaging.

An oral care device is disclosed. The oral care device includes a housing being at least partly formed of an electrically isolating material; a capacitor having a first electrode and a second electrode, the first and second electrodes being electrically isolated by the electrically isolating material of the housing such that they are not exposed to an outside environment of the oral care device; and a processor unit being electrically connected to the first and second electrodes. The processor unit is arranged such that during operation of the oral care device it determines a capacitance (x) of the capacitor in order to determine whether the oral care device is within a user's oral cavity or not.

The running time of the apparatus while driving the load is accumulated since the last charging and is repeatedly stored as sequenced data-logger entries in a data-logger memory until a reset of the apparatus due to insufficient battery capacity or until charging of the battery. Threshold is determined after the reset based on the data-logger entries and a required remaining running time of the apparatus upon indication of low battery level.

An electric toothbrush is disclosed. The electric toothbrush includes at least one switch element and a control unit. The at least one switch element is operable by a user to switch the toothbrush to an on/off state, and operable by a user during the time that the at least one switch element is in its on state to select a brushing mode from a set of at least a first brushing mode and a second brushing mode. The control unit is arranged to control the electric toothbrush such that when the at least one switch element is operated to select a particular brushing mode in the on state, the toothbrush will then operate in that particular selected brushing mode when the at least one switch element is thereafter switched to an off state and then subsequently switched back to an on state, provided that the toothbrush was in the off state for a time period less than a threshold period (T).

The invention relates to a blood pressure manometer comprising a housing, a cuff connected to the housing, a cuff storage element in which a section of the cuff can be retracted to adjust the width of the cuff, and a cuff tightener which pulls the cuff section into the cuff storage element with a pre-determined tractive force. The cuff tightener comprises a pre-tensioned spring drive and a detachable withdrawal blocking element which prevents the cuff from withdrawing counter to the spring drive. The spring drive causes the cuff to automatically tighten with a pre-determined force, ensuring reproducible measuring results. The cuff storage element and the cuff tightener can be integrated into or engaged in a locking manner with the housing. An automatic switch-on mechanism switches the appliance on as soon as the cuff storage element is locked to the housing when the cuff is positioned on the limb.
