In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a method and an apparatus for voice activity detection (VAD). The VAD comprises creating a signal indicative of a primary VAD decision and determining hangover addition. The determination on hangover addition is made in dependence of a short term activity measure and/or a long term activity measure. A signal indicative of a final VAD decision is then created.

Method and device for voice activity detection

Transmitting node and receiving node for audio coding and methods therein. The nodes being operable to encode/decode speech and to apply a discontinuous transmission (DTX) scheme comprising transmission/reception of Silence Insertion Descriptor (SID) frames during speech inactivity. The method in the transmitting node comprising determining, from amongst a number N of hangover frames, a set Y of frames being representative of background noise, and further transmitting the N hangover frames, comprising at least said set Y of frames, to the receiving node. The method further comprises transmitting a first SID frame to the receiving node in association with the transmission of the N hangover frames, where the SID frame comprises information indicating the determined set Y of hangover frames to the receiving node. The method enables the receiving node to generate comfort noise based on the hangover frames most adequate for the purpose.

Methods and apparatuses for DTX hangover in audio coding

Background noise estimators and methods are disclosed for estimating background noise in an audio signal. Some methods include obtaining at least one parameter associated with an audio signal segment, such as a frame or part of a frame, based on a first linear prediction gain, calculated as a quotient between a residual signal from a 0th-order linear prediction and a residual signal from a 2nd-order linear prediction for the audio signal segment. A second linear prediction gain is calculated as a quotient between a residual signal from a 2nd-order linear prediction and a residual signal from a 16th-order linear prediction for the audio signal segment. Whether the audio signal segment comprises a pause is determined based at least on the obtained at least one parameter; and a background noise estimate is updated based on the audio signal segment when the audio signal segment comprises a pause.

Estimation of background noise in audio signals

Controlling a concealment method for a lost audio frame associated with a received audio signal is provided. At least one bin vector of a spectral representation for at least one tone is obtained, wherein the at least one bin vector includes three consecutive bin values for the at least one tone. Whether each of the three consecutive bin values has a complex value or a real value is determined. Responsive to the determination, the three consecutive bin values are processed to estimate a frequency of the at least one tone based on whether each bin value has a complex value or a real value.

Methods for phase ECU F0 interpolation split and related controller

A method, decoder, and program code for controlling a concealment method for a lost audio frame is provided. A first audio frame and a second audio frame of the received audio signal are decoded to obtain modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) coefficients. Values of a first spectral shape based upon the MDCT coefficients decoded from the first audio frame decoded and values of a second spectral shape based upon MDCT coefficients decoded from the second audio frame decoded are determined, the spectral shapes each comprising a number of sub-bands. The values of the spectral shapes and frame energies of the first audio frame and second audio frame are transformed into representations of FFT based spectral analyses. A transient condition is detected based on the representations of the FFTs. Responsive to detecting the transient condition, the concealment method is modified by selectively adjusting a spectrum magnitude of a substitution frame spectrum.

Spectral shape estimation from MDCT coefficients

A method performed by an encoder. The method comprises determining envelope representation residual coefficients as first compressed envelope representation coefficients subtracted from the input envelope representation coefficients. The method comprises transforming the envelope representation residual coefficients into a warped domain so as to obtain transformed envelope representation residual coefficients. The method comprises applying, at least one of a plurality of gain-shape coding schemes on the transformed envelope representation residual coefficients in order to achieve gain-shape coded envelope representation residual coefficients, where the plurality of gain-shape coding schemes have mutually different trade-offs in one or more of gain resolution and shape resolution for one or more of the transformed envelope representation residual coefficients. The method comprises transmitting, over a communication channel to a decoder, a representation of the first compressed envelope representation coefficients, the gain-shape coded envelope representation residual coefficients, and information on the at least one applied gain-shape coding scheme.

Methods, encoder and decoder for handling envelope representation coefficients

A signal activity detector (SAD) combines at least three decision signals to generate a combined decision signal as input to a hangover addition circuit of the SAD. Each of the decision signals indicating whether or not activity is detected in the input signal according to respective decision criteria. The SAD sends the combined decision signal to the hangover addition circuit to generate a final decision signal of the SAD as to whether or not activity is detected in the input signal.
