A compressor wheel for an internal combustion engine may include a plurality of blades which in a circumferential direction of the wheel are spaced from one another. The plurality of blades may respectively include an inflow edge which during operation are subject to an inflow of a compressible fluid substantially axially to the wheel axis. The plurality of blades may include a surface layer of locally distinct materials to adapt to locally distinct loads during operation.

Compressor wheel

A method for manufacturing a lightweight valve is provided. The lightweight valve includes a valve stem, a hollow valve cone and a valve disk closing the valve cone, the valve stem being provided with a hollow space at an end facing the valve disk, the valve disk also having a force transmission element extending through the hollow valve cone into the stem hollow space. The method includes producing a first one-piece component forming the valve disk with the force transmission element by casting, forming and/or a powder metallurgy method, producing a second component forming the valve stem and the valve cone and joining the first and second components together and connecting them by a material, non-positive and/or positive connection.

Secondary air deliver device for an internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a multi-piece valve for reciprocating piston engines in which the valve stem is connected to the valve head in a manner resistant to both tension and compression. In the area of a center through-opening the valve head has an annular bearing surface for a stem-side flange. In addition, the center opening widens on the combustion chamber-side of the valve head, the head-side end of the valve stem being plastically expanded so that it fills this enlargement, forming a positive interlock. In order to improve the service life of the connection between valve head and valve stem, according to the invention the combustion chamber-side enlargement of the center opening and accordingly also the conformed, end-side expansion of the valve stem are of non-circular design so that a positively interlocking torsionally fixed connection is produced between the valve stem and the valve head.

An air gap insulated exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle that has a catalytic converter. The exhaust manifold includes an inner pipe and an outer pipe with a connecting flange on the cylinder head side of the outer pipe. The outer pipe encloses the inner pipe and is spaced therefrom at a distance. A pipe end of the inner pipe protrudes in a guided manner into the cylinder head and only the outer pipe is fastenable to the cylinder head by way of the connecting flange.

Air gap insulated exhaust manifold assembly for an internal combustion engine and a method of making same

A metallic damping body for damping shock-type and/or periodically changing stresses, consists of a shape-memory alloy material for effecting the damping. In order to be able to achieve a high damping effect even under a high mechanical stress on the damping body, the shape-memory alloy is selected such that it is in a state of austenitic microstructure at the operating temperature of the damping body. A sufficiently high mechanical prestress is applied to the damping body so that the damping working range is within the range of the pseudoelastic strain which starts below the proportionality limit in the stress/strain diagram of the shape-memory alloy. When the damping body is compressively stressed, a multiplicity of closely adjacent, small, uniformly distributed voids are present in the interior thereof, which together make up at least about 5%, preferably about 15 to 40%, of the total volume of the damping body. This allows free movement of the material particles in the region of the individual grain boundaries even in the interior of the damping body.
