A video endoscope comprises a shaft comprising a rigid, proximal-side section and a distal section that is laterally deflectable in a plane from the central longitudinal axis of the shaft. A housing is arranged at the proximal end of the shaft. A control element for controlling the deflection of the shaft is provided at the housing. A rod-like pull element extends in the shaft in an off-center fashion with respect to the central longitudinal axis. The pull element is coupled with the control element and with a distal end of the deflectable section of the shaft, wherein a movement of the pull element by the control element in the proximal direction effects a lateral deflection of the deflectable section. A push tube is provided that is arranged to encase the exterior side of the pull element. The push tube extends from the proximal connection of the pull element with the control element through the first opening into the shaft.

An intubation instrument for intubating a patient's trachea including an imager module having a base unit with a finger loop and a longitudinal member attached to the distal end of the base unit, as well as a blade having a handle that is hollow and mates with the outer surface of the longitudinal member forming a male-female connection, the distal end of the blade projecting laterally therefrom, the distal end of the blade being insertable into a human during intubation.

A laryngoscope includes a handle, a spatula arranged substantially transverse to the handle, and a coupling detachably fixing the spatula to the handle. An illumination light waveguide guides an illumination light signal and an image waveguide guides an image signal, both waveguides being attached to the spatula. The illumination light waveguide includes a proximal end having an illumination light entry opening, and the image waveguide includes a proximal end having an image exit opening, wherein the illumination light entry opening and the image exit opening are arranged in the area of the coupling. The handle includes, in the area of the coupling, an illumination light exit opening and an image entry opening which allow for the illumination light signal to couple into the illumination light waveguide from the handle, and for the image signal to couple out of the image waveguide. A centering element automatically aligns the image entry opening and the image exit opening precisely to each other.

A shaft is provided for a flexible endoscope. The shaft has a tubular mantle whose outer surface contacts a body tissue of a patient during use of said endoscope. The outer surface of said shaft is microscopically roughened, for example by sand blasting.
