A composition comprising water and a polyalkylene glycol having an allyl content of less than 20 μeq/g, which composition has reduced foaming properties and preferably a biodegradability of at least 60% as determined using OECD 301F. The polyalkylene glycol can be made by forming a first intermediate comprising an oxypropylene block by reacting propylene oxide with a polyol initiator in the presence of a Double Metal Cyanide catalyst, and then reacting the first intermediate with ethylene oxide in the presence of a KOH catalyst.

Low foaming hydraulic fluids having biodegradable polyalkylene glycol rheology modifiers useful in subsea applications

A composition of matter that exhibits two phases at lower temperatures (for example, less than about 50° C.) but only one-phase at higher temperatures (for example, above about 90° C.) is disclosed. The compositions comprise a low viscosity base oil which is a hydrocarbon oil and the high viscosity base oil which is a triblock polyalkylene glycol derived from a copolymer of 1, 2-propylene oxide and 1, 2-butylene oxide in which the PO/BO ratio is from 25/75 to 90/10 percent by weight and has a polymerization sequence of PO-BO-PO.

Triblock polyalkylene glycols for two phase lubricants

A lubricant composition that comprises a hydrocarbon base oil, a polar viscosity improver; and an esterified polyalkylene glycol: R[O(RO)(RO)(C&#x2550;O)R], wherein Ris a linear alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl having 4 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl with 6 to 30 carbon atoms; RO is an oxypropylene moiety derived from 1, 2-propylene oxide; RO is an oxybutylene moiety derived from butylene oxide, wherein RO and RO are in a block or a random distribution; Ris a linear alkyl with 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl with 4 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl with 6 to 18 carbon atoms; n and m are each independently integers ranging from 0 to 20 wherein n+m is greater than 0, and p is an integer from 1 to 4. The lubricant composition may have a viscosity index of at least 150, a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. from 2 to 5 centistokes and a kinematic viscosity at &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. of at most 600 centistokes.

Hydrocarbon lubricant compositions and method to make them

The present disclosure provides A lubricant composition comprises an antioxidant; and an esterified polyalkylene glycol: R[O(RO)(RO)(C&#x2550;O)R], wherein Ris a linear alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl having 4 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl with 6 to 30 carbon atoms; RO is an oxypropylene moiety derived from 1,2-propylene oxide; RO is an oxybutylene moiety derived from butylene oxide, wherein RO and RO are in a block or a random distribution; Ris a linear alkyl with 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl with 4 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl with 6 to 18 carbon atoms; n and m are each independently integers ranging from 0 to 20 wherein n+m is greater than 0, and p is an integer from 1 to 4, wherein the antioxidant is present in an amount by weight of at least 0.5% to 20% based upon the weight of the antioxidant and the esterified polyalkylene glycol and the antioxidant is soluble in the esterified polyalkylene glycol in an amount of at least 0.5% by weight. The lubricant composition may be used as an additive to form a hydrocarbon lubricant composition.

Polyalkylene glycol lubricant compositions

A composition comprising water, a glycol, and a polyalkylene glycol which has a biodegradability of at least 60% as determined using OECD 301F wherein the composition has a kinematic viscosity of at least 25 mm/sec at 40&#xb0; C. is useful as a rheology modifier, particularly in subsea applications. In some instances, the composition comprises 10 to 65 weight % water, 20 to 60 weight % of a glycol selected from ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and tetra ethylene glycol, 10 to 40 weight % of a polyalkylene glycol, and 0 to 10% of additives based on total weight of the composition wherein the polyalkylene glycol has a&#x2014;molecular weight of no more than 4000 g/mol and is characterized in that it is an oxyethylene/oxypropylene block copolymer having a weight percent of oxyethylene of at least 20% based on total weight of the copolymer.

Hydraulic fluids having biodegradable polyalkylene glycol rheology modifiers useful in subsea applications

Embodiments of the present disclosure directed towards synthetic lubricant compositions. In various embodiments, the present disclosure provides a synthetic lubricant compositions including an aromatic amine antioxidant comprising 0.25 to 5 weight percent of a total weight of the synthetic lubricant composition, dithiocarbamate antioxidant comprising 0.25 to 5 weight percent of the total weight of the synthetic lubricant composition, and a polyalkylene glycol PAG comprising 99.25 to 85 weight percent of the total weight of the synthetic lubricant composition, where the synthetic lubricant composition has a total acidic number (TAN) increase of 2 milligrams of potassium hydroxide per gram of the synthetic lubricant composition over 27 days or greater as measured in accordance with modified ASTM D-664, and where the synthetic lubricant composition does not include any of a Group I, II, III, IV base oil.

Synthetic lubricant compositions having improved oxidation stability

The present disclosure provides for a lubricant formulation and a method of forming the lubricant formulation for use in an internal combustion engine. Modified oil soluble polyalkylene glycols

Alkoxylated hydrophobes that include a poly(alkylene oxide) chain of at least 5 oxyalkylene units having a terminal secondary hydroxyl group or a terminal Chydrocarbyl group are effective internal mold release agents for epoxy resin moldings.
