The present invention generally relates to a method for separating solids from liquid in a slurry comprising solids and a liquid (e.g., an aqueous solution). More specifically, the method comprises contacting an effective amount of a high molecular weight polymeric flocculant with the slurry in a tanker truck or as the slurry is flowing to the truck, allowing the solids to settle during a settling time whereby the solids settle to the bottom of the tanker truck, and the liquid is removed from the tanker truck at a level above the settled solids. The high molecular weight polymeric flocculant can comprise repeat units derived from a cationic monomer, an anionic monomer, a nonionic monomer, or a combination thereof.

Use of polyelectrolytes for the remediation of solids from oil field separation

Systems and methods can be used for correcting for the presence of voids in a fluid when measuring the conductivity thereof. The conductivity of a fluid can be measured using a conductivity sensor. Capacitance electrodes can be used to measure the capacitance of the fluid. The measured capacitance affected by the fluid can be used in combination with the measured conductivity to determine a corrected conductivity value that compensates for possible voids in the fluid. Other parameters, such as the makeup or temperature of the fluid can be used in determining the corrected conductivity measurement. Some such systems include an annular housing and can be inserted or integrated into fluid flow systems so that fluid to be analyzed flows through an aperture defined by the annular housing.

This invention relates to an improved method for inhibiting the formation and deposition of silica and silicate compounds in a water system. In particular, the method includes adding to the water system a relatively low molecular weight organic, anionic polymer. The polymer preferrably has an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid functionality and is preferrably selected from one or more of homopolymers of acrylic acid, a methacrylic acid/polyethylene glycol allyl ether copolymer, a homopolymer of methacrylic acid, an acrylic acid/polyethylene glycol allyl ether copolymer, and an acrylic acid/1-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropane sulfonic acid copolymer, homopolymers of maleic anhydride, copolymers of maleic anhydride and polyethylene glycol allyl ether, and combinations thereof.

Method for inhibiting the formation and deposition of silica scale in aqueous systems

Disclosed are systems and methods for monitoring and controlling a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in a hot water system to inhibit corrosion in the hot water system. The method includes defining one or more operational protective zones in the hot water system. One or more of the operational protective zones includes an oxidation-reduction potential probe that is operable to measure a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in the hot water system at operating temperature and pressure. The probe transmits the measured real-time potential to the controller, which assesses and interprets the transmitted potential to determine whether it conforms to an oxidation-reduction potential setting. If the measured potential does not conform the oxidation-reduction potential setting, the controller is operable to feed or remove one or more active chemical species into or from the hot water system and further operable to change at least one system parameter.

A solid-state fluorometry instrument is provided. The instrument is based on either diode laser or light-emitting diode (LED) excitation sources that are capable of being used in a wide range of applications. The solid-state diode laser based fluorometer instrument monitors fluorescent tracers, particularly suitable for industrial water sample stream applications. Using the instrument, a solid-state diode laser or light-emitting diode (LED) is used as an excitation source to excite fluorescent tracer molecules. The fluorescence resulting from the diode laser excitation is imaged with a lens onto a silicon photodiode detector. An optical filter is placed between the sample cell and the photodiode detector to reject scattered laser light. The output from the photodiode is amplified to produce an output voltage proportional to the quantity of fluorescence striking the photodiode detector. Since fluorescence is proportional to the concentration of a fluorophore present in the sample stream, continuous monitoring of a voltage output may be performed which further allows real time measurement of concentration of a fluorescent tracer present in, for example, a sample stream.

Following independent determination of the solution resistance, polarization resistance of the metal surface in the solution may be determined. The corrosion rate of the metal surface may be calculated from the polarization resistance.

A concentration-fluctuation responsive regulation of water treatment agent feed is achieved by adding an incipient to a sample whereby a concentration indicator is formed. Such a concentration indicator comprises a combination of the incipient reagent and a substantially nonfluorescent water treatment agent. The concentration indicator is then monitored by fluorescence analysis of the sample to determine at least one fluorescence emission value that can be correlated to an in-system concentration of the water treatment agent. The fluorescence emission value measured in then correlated to the in-system concentration of the water treatment agent.

Three electrodes including a counterelectrode, a reference electrode, and a working metal electrode are dispossed in close proximity to each other and an ion conducting, but electrically insulating, material is provided between at least the reference and working metal electrodes. The ion conducting material provides a pathway for ions to travel between the electrodes other than through the solution without also creating a short circuit between the elctrodes.
