A laundry treatment composition comprising: i) at least 5 wt % amphiphilic material, preferably selected from the group consisting of detersive surfactants and quaternary ammonium compounds, ii) from 0.1 to 5 wt % perfume, iii) 0.2 to 6 wt % of porous microparticles comprising sol-gel derived material, the sol-gel derived material including a plurality of alkylsiloxy substituents and wherein the sol-gel derived material is obtained from: (a) at least one first alkoxysilane precursor having the formula: (R'O)&#x2014;Si&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Si&#x2014;(OR&#x2032;)(1) where n and m are individually an integer from 1 to 8, Ar is a single-, fused-, or poly-aromatic ring, and each R&#x2032; is independently a Cto Calkyl group and (b) optionally, at least one second precursor having the formula: (formula) (2) where x is 1, 2, 3 or 4; y is 0, 1, 2, 3; z is 0, 1; the total of x+y+z is 4; each R is independently an organic functional group; each an R&#x2032; is independently a Cto Calkyl group and R&#x2033; is an organic bridging group, where the sol-gel derived material is swellable to at least 2.5 times its dry mass, when placed in excess acetone, whereby the weight amount of iii) exceeds the weight amount of ii) in the composition. Also, a method of prolongation of perfume delivery from a liquid laundry treatment composition comprising perfume, the method comprising the steps of: (i) adding sol-gel derived silica microparticles as described above to the liquid composition; C30068 EP (C) CPL (ii) optionally, diluting the liquid and applying the liquid or the diluted liquid to a surface to be treated to deposit the microparticles onto the surface; (iii) rinsing away the liquid or diluted liquid to leave perfume loaded microparticles on the surface to be treated; and (iv) releasing perfume from the microparticles over period of about 24 hours.

The invention provides a use of a particle to absorb and retain odiferous compounds, wherein the particle comprises: &#x2014;(a) a solid core comprising a first hydrophobic polymer, and (b) a shell comprising a second hydrophobic polymer wherein the Tg of the first hydrophobic polymer is lower than the Tg of the second hydrophobic polymer; wherein the particles have a mean particle size of less than 1 micron, preferably from 0.1 to 0.3 microns, and wherein the odiferous compound is a malodor compound.

The invention relates to a water-in-oil antiperspirant composition comprising: A) an aqueous phase containing dissolved antiperspirant active; B) an oil phase comprising: i) an amido gelator; ii) a fatty alcohol that is liquid at 25&#xb0; C.; iii) a primary non-volatile emollient oil having a refractive index of from 1.47 to 1.56; iv) a secondary non-volatile emollient oil having a refractive index of from 1.38 to 1.451 and C) and emulsifier; and further to a method of production of said antiperspirant composition.

Antiperspirant emulsion sticks

Fragrance leaches rapidly from capsules having shells made from cross linked gelatin into volatile silicone oils. Unfortunately such oils are much favored for anhydrous antiperspirant compositions. The rate and extent of leaching can be ameliorated greatly or nearly halted by employing as carrier oil, an ester oil or an ether oil, even in the presence of a significant fraction of volatile silicone oil. Consequently, the capability of antiperspirant compositions to generate detectable fragrance over an extended period after application to the skin is improved by employing ester or ether oil as all or part of the carrier liquid in which the antiperspirant is suspended.

Antiperspirant compositions

Anhydrous antiperspirant compositions comprising particulate antiperspirant active; capsules comprising a shear-sensitive shell which encapsulates perfume; and a carrier for the particulate antiperspirant active and capsules; wherein the capsules have a shell of cross-linked gelatin coacervate having a thickness of from 0.25 to 9 &#x3bc;m and providing from 10 to 40% by weight of the capsules, a volume average particle diameter of from 25 to 70 &#x3bc;m, a ratio of shell thickness to the average particle diameter in the range of from 1:5 to 1:120, and a Hysitron hardness in the range of from 1.5 MPa to 50 MPa.

Segregation of antiperspirant actives suspended in anhydrous compositions employing ester oils or non-volatile silicone oils having a refractive index of at least 1.5, preferably together with an alcohol oil, gelled with a fibre-forming amide gellant can be inhibited by including a segregation inhibitor, especially an arylene-alkylene block copolymer, such as a tri-block copolymer e.g. a styrene/ethylenebutylene/styrene copolymer or a styrene/butylene copolymer.

Antiperspirant or deodorant compositions

Many cosmetic stick compositions containing a continuous phase of a water-immiscible cosmetic oil structured by a fibre-forming amido structurant and an active cosmetic ingredient either exhibit poor physical stability when formed, or cannot be made readily using conventional processes for making stick compositions. The problem can be ameliorated or overcome by the use of a combination of amido structurants comprising in class (i) an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent has the formula &#x2014;CO&#x2014;Rin which Rrepresents a branched Cto Calkyl group in combination with a further amido structurant, (class (ii), including a polyamido-substituted cyclohexane, an amido derivative of di or tricarboxylic acids or an hydroxystearamide and particularly employing an N-acylaminoacid amide in which the N-acyl substituent contains a linear alkyl group, or a cyclodipeptide.
