In a drying system for a printing system, a plurality of dryers can be arranged along a drying route to dry a recording medium. The plurality of dryers can including multiple resistive heating elements configured to dry the recording medium. The dryers can be supplied via two or more supply lines with an alternating current having a sequence of alternating positive and negative half-waves. A controller of the drying system can be coupled to the dryers and can couple the dryers uniformly on average with the at least two supply lines given positive and negative half-waves based on a nominal temperature curve along the drying route. The controller can jointly couple the resistive heating elements of a corresponding dryer with a multiphase supply grid or jointly decouple the resistive heating elements of the dryer with the multiphase supply grid during a half-wave.

In a method to damp an oscillation of a roller driven via a drive in a printing system, a printing substrate web is directed across the roller, the roller and the printing substrate web forming a system capable of vibrating. With the drive the roller is driven with a predetermined nominal moment. With a sensor, a real value is determined of a variable representative of a velocity with which the printing substrate web is transported by the roller. In aid of a predetermined calculation rule, a correction moment is calculated from the determined real value such that a damping of the vibration-capable system results like a mechanical viscous damper. The correction moment is added to the predetermined nominal moment upon activation of the drive.

Method to damp an oscillation of a driven roller in a printing system

In a printing system or method, two printing units apply printing ink onto a recording material, each printing unit having multiple apparatuses with a respective microprocessor controller. The microprocessor controllers are connected with one another via a respective data bus segment and each data bus segment has multiple data lines. The two data bus segments of the two printing units are connected with a bus switch. The bus switch has a data switch to connect a respective one of the lines of the one data bus segment with the corresponding line of the other data bus segment, a respective terminating resistor being provided for each data bus segment. The terminating resistors are connected with a respective terminating switch coupled with the data switches such that either all terminating switches are open and all data switches are closed, or all terminating switches are closed and all data switches are open.
