Examples include a pile cutting apparatus including a cutting device for cutting a sheet pile, with a front pile bearing surface, a rear pile bearing surface, and a cutting gap arranged therebetween. A table plane contains the front pile bearing surface. The cutting device further includes a movable upper blade, a lower blade including a cutting edge, and a cutting aid for fixing sheet piles that is upstream from the upper blade along a transport path for transporting sheet piles. A movable support element has a contact surface for supporting sheets and is movable between a support position and a disposal position. The contact surface, when the support element is arranged in the support position, is arranged in and/or beneath the table plane, and is closer to the cutting edge when the support element is in the support position than when the support element is in the disposal position.

In some examples, a sheet-fed printing unit is configured as a screen printing unit and includes at least one screen printing forme cylinder and at least one impression cylinder cooperating therewith. A cylinder barrel of the impression cylinder includes a supporting surface for sheets, and which includes at least one impression portion having a constant barrel radius that extends over an angle of at least 170 degrees about the axis of rotation of the impression cylinder. The screen printing forme cylinder has an effective screen radius that is smaller than a barrel radius of the impression cylinder, and the effective screen radius is larger than half the barrel radius.

Sheet-fed printing unit configured as a screen printing unit and methods for operating a sheet-fed printing unit configured as a screen printing unit

In some examples, a screen printing unit includes a screen printing forme cylinder, an impression cylinder, and a frame including two frame side walls. The screen printing unit further includes first and second base modules, each comprising two stationary base side walls that each have a one-piece design. Each base module includes four installation areas for rotational transport bodies whose positions coincide in the base modules, and the respective first and second installation areas of each base module form a respective selection group of the base module. An impression cylinder cooperating with the screen printing forme cylinder is in one of the installation areas of the selection group of the first base module, and a respective rotational transport body is arranged in each of the four installation areas of the base modules. A functionally different rotational transport body is arranged in an installation area of the first base module.

Sheet-fed printing unit configured as a screen printing unit and comprising two base modules

In some examples, a screen printing unit includes a screen printing forme cylinder, an impression cylinder, and at least one further rotational transport body. A fixing element of the impression cylinder includes inner and outer contact surfaces for clamping sheets. The inner contact surface has a base radius as a distance from an axis of rotation of the impression cylinder. A cylinder barrel of the impression cylinder has a supporting surface for sheets that includes an impression portion having a constant barrel radius, which extends over at least 170° about the axis of rotation of the impression cylinder and the barrel radius is larger than the base radius. A fixing element of the further rotational transport body includes an inner and an outer contact surface for clamping sheets. The inner contact surface includes the base radius as a distance from an axis of rotation of the further rotational transport body.

In some examples, a pile cutting device includes a first pile positioning unit, a cutting unit for cutting at least one sheet pile, and a bearing device including a first pile bearing surface. The first pile positioning unit includes an upper rotary plunger that can be pivoted about a pivot axis and moved with respect to a vertical direction, and also includes a first horizontal drive for moving a sheet pile in and/or counter to a horizontal direction. The first pile positioning unit further includes two upper pressing elements that differ from the upper rotary plunger, and that are movable with respect to the vertical direction. A first one of the upper pressing elements is movable in and/or counter to the horizontal direction by the first horizontal drive. A second one of the upper pressing elements is movable in and/or counter to the horizontal direction by a second horizontal drive.

There is described a printing press adapted to carry out printing on a sheet-like or web-like substrate, in particular for the production of security documents such as banknotes, comprising a substrate feeding device for feeding the substrate to be treated, at least a printing unit designed to print a first side and/or a second side of the substrate and a delivery unit for receiving the treated substrate. The printing press in the conveying path for the substrate between the feeding device and the delivery unit further comprises an in-line casting device adapted to apply a layer of material acting as an optical medium on a portion of the second side of the substrate and to replicate and form a micro-optical structure in the layer of material acting as optical medium, wherein the printing unit comprises a first printing group comprising a printing cylinder and being adapted to print at least one printed pattern on the first or second side of the substrate in register with the micro-optical structure.

Printing press with in-line casting device for the replication and formation of a micro-optical structure

There is described a printing press (****) adapted to carry out printing on a sheet-like or web-like substrate (S), in particular for the production of security documents such as banknotes, comprising a printing unit (****) designed to print a first side (I) and/or a second side (II) of the substrate (S). The printing press (****) further comprises an in-line casting device (***) adapted to apply a layer of material acting as an optical medium on a portion of a first side (I, II) of the substrate (S) and to replicate and form a micro-optical structure (L) in the layer of material acting as optical medium. The printing unit (****) is furthermore adapted to print at least one printed pattern on the first or second side (I, II) of the substrate (S) in register with the micro-optical structure (L), wherein the printing unit (****) comprises at least a first printing group () being adapted to print at least one printed pattern on the second side (II) of the substrate (S) in register with the micro-optical structure (L) and wherein the in-line casting device (***) comprises at least one embossing cylinder (), which embossing cylinder () also is acting as counter-pressure cylinder and cooperates with a printing cylinder () of the at least first printing group () and/or whereas the in-line casting device (***) and the at least a first printing group () being arranged at the Substrate transport path such way, that in-line casting of the micro-optical structure, on one side of the sheets S, and printing of the associated pattern, on the other side of the sheets S, are performed in a same step, without this involving any sheet transfer operation.

A sheet-fed simultaneous printing machine has two directly interacting collecting cylinders with respective axes of rotation. An axial plane contains these axes of rotation. A reference plane contains such an axis of rotation of this type and has a horizontal surface normal. The intersection angle between the axial plane and the reference plane is max 0.5&#xb0;. The sheet-fed simultaneous sheet printing unit has exactly four plate cylinders, of which two are arranged such that they directly interact with the first and two are arranged to such that they directly interact with the second collector cylinder. Device and printing press for producing a security element on a substrate

A sheet-fed printing unit has a first impression cylinder and a second impression cylinder, which are arranged directly and interactingly in contact and which each have an axis of rotation. An axial plane contains the axes of rotation. A reference plane is a plane which contains an axis of rotation of a cylinder of this type and has a horizontal surface normal. These two cylinders are arranged such that an intersection angle between the axial plane and the reference plane is a maximum of 15&#xb0;. A transport path is provided for a transportation of sheets, which transport path has a region for the respective impression cylinder in which there is contact between sheets and a casing surface. A sheet-fed printing machine comprises two sheet-fed printing units; of which a first is configured as a sheet-fed simultaneous printing unit and has two collector cylinders, which interact with one another and each have an axis of rotation. An axial plane contains the axes of rotation of the collector cylinders. A reference plane contains an axis of rotation of this type and has a horizontal surface normal. An intersection angle between the axial plane and the reference plane is, at a maximum, 45 degrees. A first one of the sheet-fed simultaneous printing units has exactly four plate cylinders, of which exactly two are arranged such that they directly interact with the first collector cylinder and has exactly two others which are arranged such that they directly interact with the second collector cylinder. The two collector cylinders of the first printing unit and the impression cylinder of the second printing unit have the same circumference.

A sheet-fed printing machine comprises at least two sheet-fed printing units. A first sheet-fed printing unit has a first impression cylinder and a second impression cylinder, which cylinders are arranged such that they directly interact with one another and each have an axis of rotation. An axial plane contains these two axes of rotation. A reference plane contains an axis of rotation of this type and has a horizontal surface normal. These two cylinders are arranged such that an intersection angle between the axial plane and the reference plane has a maximum angle of 30&#xb0;. The first sheet-fed printing unit has at least one plate cylinder, which is in direct contact with or which directly interacts with one of the impression cylinders and which is configured as a numbering plate cylinder or as a flexo cylinder or as a screen printing plate cylinder. A screen-printing unit in a printing machine comprises a screen cylinder which carries a screen-printing stencil and in which a squeegee is moved, from the inside, into contact with, and away from the screen-printing stencil. The screen cylinder is moved into contact with an impression cylinder, such that a printing position is formed, and is moved away therefrom, such that a gap is formed. The screen cylinder is moved away from the impression cylinder, in a first phase, when the squeegee is in a non-contacting position. In a second phase, at least one sheet of printing material is passed through the printing position when the squeegee continues to be in a non-contacting position and the screen cylinder is at least temporarily in a contacting position. For subsequent sheets of printing material, in a third phase, the screen-printing unit is operated with the squeegee one of permanently and cyclically, such as at least once for each sheet of printing material, in a contacting position.

Method and device for operating a rotary screen-printing machine

Rotational bodies of a printing press with at least a first, a second and a third ink-conducting rotational body, which interact with each other in pairs, can be set in a thrown-on position. The second of the at least three rotational bodies can be set both against the first of the three rotational bodies and against the third of the three rotational bodies in order to form a two-sided thrown-on position. Tracking, coupled in a defined way, of the rotational axis of the second rotational body takes place at the same time as a radial positional change of the rotational axis of the first rotational body, by the superimposition of two movements along two non-congruent movement paths which run in a plane which is perpendicular with respect to the rotational axis. A device for setting rotational bodies of a printing press is also provided.
