A vehicular radio communications system establishes a bi-directional digital radio communications link between a local wireless communication device inside a moving vehicle and a sequence of radio transceivers in a wireless network. The local device operates in a plurality of different device frequency bands and the external transceivers operate in a plurality of different network frequency bands. Some or all of the device frequency bands are the same as some or all of the network frequency bands. The system comprises a set of one or more external radio antennas operating in an external downlink and an external uplink using a network frequency band and a set of one or more local radio antennas operating in a local downlink and a local uplink using a local frequency band different from the network band.

Front lit display unit

An air intake apparatus for supplying air to an internal combustion engine, comprises a unitary hollow enclosure, a motor vehicle battery, an air filter and an air compressor which when activated compresses air supplied to the engine. The enclosure houses the battery, air filter and compressor. An engine air supply path through the enclosure passes from an air inlet to the enclosure to an air outlet from the enclosure via the air filter. The enclosure inlet and enclosure outlet define respectively an upstream end of the air supply path and a downstream end of the air supply path. The apparatus includes an automatic air bypass within the enclosure that directs air in the air supply path to the air compressor when this is activated, and which allows air to in the air supply path to bypass the air compressor when this is not activated.

Air intake arrangement for an internal combustion engine

This invention relates to a method of cooling an engine for an automobile, in particular to a method of operating a cooling system having a variable coolant flow control valve. The cooling system is operated in dependence upon the difference between a desired operating temperature and a measured operating temperature. If this difference falls within a first and a second predetermined threshold, the temperature control is effected by operation of the valve in dependence upon the difference. The method also includes operation of a variable speed fan and a variable speed pump, in dependence upon the difference between a desired operating temperature and a measured operating temperature.

Method of engine cooling

A rotary valve provides single point flow control of coolant within the cooling system of an internal combustion engine. The valve distributes coolant flow from the engine in predetermined flow modes to either 1) the radiator and heater simultaneously, 2) a bypass circuit only, 3) the heater only, or 4) the radiator and bypass simultaneously. The single-point coolant control results in advantages of shorter warm-up times, a lower pressure drop (reducing power consumption by the pump), reduced engine emissions and fuel consumption, improved cabin heater performance, and improved engine durability due to reduced thermal shocks to the engine components by virtue of more precise control of engine operating temperature.
