Functionalized nanoparticles, which are obtainable by combining in a first step a functionalized dyestuff, a silicon-based spacer and a catalyst, and in a second step reacting the product obtained in the first step with a co-reactive organic silicon, aluminum, zirconium or titanium compound. Optionally, the thus obtained functionalized nanoparticles can be combined or encapsulated with a polymer. The functionalized nanoparticles are useful as colorants and fluorescents in plastics, paints, inks, electronic materials, cosmetic articles, and the like.

Functionalized core-shell nanoparticles

The present invention discloses functionalized nanoparticles comprising on the surface a covalently bound radical of the formula (I) wherein the nanoparticles are SiO, AlOor mixed SiOand AlOnanoparticles, and wherein the general symbols are as defined in claim. These functionalized nanoparticles are for example useful as stabilizers and/or compatibilizers in organic materials, or as photoinitiators in pre-polymeric or pre-crosslinking formulations, or as reinforcer of coatings and improver of scratch resistance in coating compositions for surfaces. 

Functionalized nanoparticles

Photoinitiator compounds comprising both a photoactive moiety and an amine functionality, bonded to a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, which photoinitiator is represented by formula (1) or (1') wherein n is 2m; m is an integer of 2 to 30; the sum of n&#x2032;+a is an integer 4-60; n&#x2032; is an even-numbered integer; a is an even- or uneven-numbered integer; and for example different A C-Calkyl, or a photoactive moiety Q1, or a group of formula (2); E for example is a direct bond, L is linear or branched C-Calkylene, preferably propylene; Rand Rfor example are a photoactive moiety Q, or Calkyl; Q is for example a group of formula (4); Zis for example C-Calkylene which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more OR; and R, R, Rand Rfor example are hydrogen; are especially suitable as low-migrating photoinitiators. 

Silsesquioxane photoinitiators

A highly crosslinked polysiloxane dye comprising at least 10 Si atoms, including at least one moiety of the formula (I) whose open Si-bonds each are linked to an oxygen atom and open O-bond is linked to a silicon atom in the rest of the polysiloxane, and wherein T is a direct bond or an organic spacer group such as C-Calkylene, C-Calkenylene, C-Ccycloalkylene, C-Carylene, &#x2014;C-Carylene-(C-Calkylene)- each of which may be end-capped towards the linkage to Dye by CO, COO, NR, CONR, NRCONR, CS, CSS, CSNR, NRCSNR, O, S, SO, SO, C-Ccycloalkylene, C-Carylene; or T is C-Calkylene interrupted, and optionally end-capped towards the linkage to Dye, by CO, COO, NR, CONR, NRCONR, CS, CSS, CSNR, NRCSNR, O, S, SO, &#x2014;SO&#x2014;, C-Ccycloalkylene, C-Carylene; or is CO; (CHCH&#x2014;O); COO; N(R); CON(R); O; S; SO; SO; Ris hydrogen; unsubstituted or substituted, straight-chain or branched, monocyclic or polycyclic, interrupted or uninterrupted C-Calkyl; C-Calkenyl; C-Caryl; C-Caryl-C-Calkyl; or C-Calkyl(C-Caryl); and Dye is a residue of an organic dye, is useful for dyeing of organic materials, such as keratin-containing fibers, wool, leather, silk, cellulose or polyamides. 

Polymeric dyes

The invention relates to novel colorants based on bismuth oxyhalide and bismuth oxycarboxylates, bismuth oxyenolates or bismuth oxysulfonates and to the use thereof as pigments and coating agents. They are preferably solid solutions, especially solid solutions mainly in the tetragonal crystal lattice of bismuth oxyhalide.
