A segmented piston ring assembly includes piston ring segmentshaving stepped ends, at least one piston ring segmentincluding a radial step on a radially inner peripheral surfaceover a part of the width of the piston ring segment, and a single-cut sealing ring, which bears radially against the inside of the peripheral surfaceof the piston ring segments, the sealing ringincluding an axial recesswhich cooperates with the radial stepof the piston ring segmentto prevent relative rotation therebetween.
