A leak-proof sealing system is provided for sealing combustion chambers of an automotive engine. The system comprises a head gasket compressed between an engine block and a cylinder head, the head gasket comprising a gasket plate, a plurality of circular combustion apertures positioned on the gasket plate, the plurality of circular combustion apertures configured to register with a plurality of cylinder bore openings of the engine block, a plurality of bolt apertures distributed on the gasket plate, the plurality of bolt apertures alternating with the plurality of circular combustion apertures, and a plurality of wire rings, each wire ring extending circumferentially around a corresponding circular combustion aperture of the plurality of circular combustion apertures, where a surface of each wire ring includes a selective metal coating on sections of the wire ring spanning between two consecutive bolt apertures of the plurality of bolt apertures, and wherein sections of the wire ring located closer to the plurality of bolt apertures are devoid of metal coating. In one example, the system helps increase stress locally and reduces fatigue lift motion, thereby improving sealing and engine durability.

A sealing system for an engine comprising a single layer of sheet material, the sheet having an upper surface adapted to sealably contact a first engine component and a lower surface adapted to sealably contact a second engine component, and bead portions profiled on the gasket, where the gasket profile is optimized with varying heights and widths so as to create portions of varying stiffness adjacent to one another. The bead portions are profiled so as to be concentric with a combustion or cylinder chamber of the engine, and the bead portions include a portion of high stiffness adjacent to a portion of high recovery, the portion of high stiffness having a sharper angle protruding away from the plane comprising the single layer gasket than for the adjacent portion of high recovery. The optimized profile allows use of single layer gaskets to replace multiple layer gaskets.

A gasket for a combustion chamber is provided. The gasket comprises an upper assembly including an upper combustion sealing section with a raised bead positioned between a first component and a second component adjacent to a combustion chamber and an upper fluid sealing section positioned between the first component and the second component at a location spaced away from the combustion chamber. The upper combustion sealing section includes an anti-fret coating on a metal layer, the upper fluid sealing section includes a synthetic rubber coating on a metal layer, and the upper combustion sealing section is greater in thickness than the upper fluid sealing section.

A multi-layer head gasket having at least two active layers and a shim layer sandwiched there between. The gasket and shim layer include cylinder openings aligned with the cylinders disposed within an engine block. The shim layer incorporates a plated portion for adding topography to an otherwise flat shim layer, the areas of plating determined based on FEA and/or pressure film load testing, for improving fatigue resistance, sealing pressure, and/or loading characteristics of the gasket.

A gasket for a combustion chamber is provided. The gasket comprises a plated surface extending across at least a portion of the metal base. In the gasket, at least a portion of the plated surface includes a laser treated section with a first raised surface that protrudes away from the metal base and the laser treated section is arranged in a mid-span that is arranged between two cylinder openings.

Laser profiled gasket and method for manufacturing said gasket

An extrusion resistant gasket may have a metallic core having a first side and a second side. The metallic core may have a plurality of alternating domes and valleys integrally formed therein. The domes and valleys do not have perforations through the core. The gasket may also have a non-metallic facing material on at least one of the sides of the metallic core. The facing material may have a contact surface and an inner surface. The domes or valleys do not extend through the contact surface.

Extrusion resistant gasket

The present invention relates to an exhaust manifold gasket having a metallic core, at least one insulating layer, and an embossed layer. The metallic core has two sides with at least one side having a plurality of projections. The insulating layer has two sides, with the first side contacting the projections of the metallic core and the second side contacting the embossed layer. The embossed layer is a metallic flange having a lower leg, a convex face, and an upper leg.

A multi-piece exhaust manifold includes a ring seal between separate portions. The separate portions have generally cylindrical sealing surfaces formed thereon to mate with the ring seal. The ring seal may include a metal sheath filled with graphite or other sealing material.

Slip joint exhaust manifolds

A multi-layer steel cylinder head gasket includes a spacer layer between two beaded mirror image outer layers. A wire ring stopper extends about the boundary of a combustion opening in the stopper layer; the ring is radially spaced from the mirror image beaded outer layer extremities. The ring is covered by a flange folded thereover; the flange extends radially outwardly to overlie the boundary edge of the stopper layer at the combustion opening. The stopper ring pre-stresses the gasket interface at the combustion opening upon securement of a cylinder head to an engine block. Because the stopper ring is spaced from the beaded outer layers, the stresses imposed on the wire ring are decoupled from the beaded outer layers, and lower incidences of bead cracking are realized. In addition, the wire ring diameter is greater than the thickness of the stopper layer, reducing unnecessary compression loads on the stopper layer.

A game racquet includes a head portion and a pair of removable handle portions. The head portion is adapted to support racquet strings and includes a pair of side portions which curve downwardly and inwardly at the bottom of the head. Each handle portion includes a substantially straight bottom portion and a curved top portion which is frictionally engaged with, and removable from, one of the side portions of the hoop. Dampening or resilient material is positioned between the frictionally engaged portions of the side portions and the handle portions.
