A pharmaceutical aerosol is disclosed which is suitable for delivering an active compound to the mucosa of the nose, the osteomeatal complex or a paranasal sinus. The pressure of the aerosol is not constant, but pulsates at a frequency from about 10 to 90 Hz. The aerosol is further characterised in that it exhibits a low effective flow rate of less than about 5 liters per minute. The aerosol is, inter alia, suitable for the prevention, management, or treatment of a disease, symptom, or condition affecting the nose or the paranasal sinuses, such as acute and chronic sinusitis.

Aerosols for sinunasal drug delivery

In a first aspect, the invention relates to a method for operating an aerosol inhalation device (), comprising the steps of transporting a certain amount of an aerosol to a desired location outside said device () and vibrating the transported aerosol when it has reached said desired location. In a second aspect, the invention relates to an aerosol inhalation device () comprising a pump () for flowing a certain amount of an aerosol to a desired location outside the device (), a vibrator () for vibrating the transported aerosol in a vibration mode and a control configured to actuate the vibrator () for vibrating the flowed aerosol only when it has reached said desired location.

Method for operating an aerosol inhalation device and aerosol inhalation device

The compressor includes two compression spaces () separate from one another, one of which serves to generate the continuous pressure medium flow for the generation of a basic aerosol flow, whereas the other is used to generate the pressure variations. The shared compression device (), for example a piston, is moved in a pendulum motion by a drive () so that a gas is conveyed through the first compression space and pressure variations are imposed upon a gas volume via the second compression space. The drive is disposed in a compression space, use advantageously being made of the space volume available that may if necessary be made use of by the compressor. In a preferred embodiment the drive () is located in the compression space () that is used to generate the pressure variations.

To increase the efficacy of atomizer nozzles operating with compressed gas, an atomizer device for inhalation therapy appliances includes means for delivering a compressed gas, in particular compressed air; means for supplying a fluid that is to be atomized, in particular a therapeutic liquid; several compressed gas outlet openings from which a delivered compressed gas emerges; and several fluid outlet openings from which the fluid to be atomized emerges on account of the emerging compressed gas. The atomizer device includes at least three compressed gas outlet openings arranged in a row, and one of the compressed gas outlet openings is in each case assigned at least two fluid outlet openings which, together with the associated compressed gas outlet opening, form an atomizer nozzle.

Inhalation therapy device with multiple nozzles

Aerosol therapy device comprising a nebuliser () for generating an aerosol and forming an aerosol flow, a first nosepiece () for introducing the aerosol flow into one of the two nostrils () of a user, a pressure fluctuation source for generating a pressure fluctuation (DS), a second nosepiece () for introducing the pressure fluctuation into the other of the two nostrils () of the user in order to superimpose the pressure fluctuation and the aerosol flow, and a sensor system comprising a first pressure sensor () for detecting the signal of the pressure fluctuation that arrives at the first nosepiece (), and an evaluation means () that concludes the degree of closure of the velum of the user based on the signal.

Aerosol therapy device

A breath-controlled inhalation therapy device includes an obturation mechanism, obturating a nozzle opening through which a pressurised gas, preferably pressurised air, is issued when the device is in operation. An actuation mechanism actuates the obturation mechanism only in the exhalation phases of the respiration cycle of a patient. The fluid to be atomised is therefore substantially atomised only in the inhalation phases.

Breath-controlled inhalation therapy device

A breath-controlled inhalation therapy device includes an obturation mechanism, obturating a nozzle opening through which a pressurized gas, preferably pressurized air, is issued when the device is in operation. An actuation mechanism actuates the obturation mechanism only in the exhalation phases of the respiration cycle of a patient. The fluid to be atomized is therefore substantially atomized only in the inhalation phases.

The invention regards a therapeutic aerosol device in which a main aerosol flow, which is generated with the help of a compressed gas and is supplied to one of the nostrils of a user, is superimposed by pressure fluctuations. The superimposition of the pressure fluctuations occurs directly at one of the two nostrils of the user. A flow resistance is provided in the other nostril.

A therapeutic aerosol device in which an aerosol generated by a nebulising device is supplied through a nosepiece to a patient's nostril so that the main aerosol flow supplied is able to emerge from the other nostril. The main aerosol flow is superimposed by pressure fluctuations. In order to guarantee that, due to the pressure fluctuation, aerosol is transported to the paranasal sinuses, a low resistance device is provided in the other nostril.

Therapeutic aerosol device

To increase the accuracy of the administration of doses of inhalation therapies for animals, the invention proposes a two-part inhalation mask for animals in which each mask part () comprises an aerosol chamber () and an adaptation chamber (). The two chambers are separated by a dividing wall () with an opening for the aerosol so that during the inhalation phases, the aerosol passes together with the respiratory air out of the aerosol chamber () into the adaptation chamber ().
