A torsion spring may be configured as a torsion bar or a helical spring made of a spring wire made of fiber-composite material. The torsion spring may have a plurality of layers of fiber reinforcement that have been saturated with a matrix material, wherein the layers may have fibers that are tension-loaded and fibers that are compression-loaded. The at least one compression-loaded group may have a lower group stiffness than the tension-loaded group with the highest group stiffness. Methods for designing or making torsion springs made of fiber-composite material are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a method and a device for infiltrating a fiber preform of a component of fiber composite material with a matrix material. On the method side, it is proposed that an elastic coating () is applied onto the fiber preform (), wherein the elastic coating () is widened to form a gap space () between the fiber preform () and the coating (). The matrix material () is then fed into the gap space () and the elastic coating () is subsequently pressed against the fiber preform (). Longitudinal members for motor vehicles may generally include a supporting element that is releasably connectable to an energy absorption mechanism. The supporting element may typically include a joining zone that can be used to secure the supporting element to one or more chassis or drive components of the motor vehicle. The supporting element and the energy absorption mechanism may be comprised of fiber-reinforced plastic. More specifically, the supporting element may be comprised of a plurality of length portions having different fiber orientations. For example, a first length portion may have fibers oriented substantially parallel to a horizontal longitudinal plane about which the supporting element is positioned, whereas a second length portion between the first length portion and the energy absorption mechanism may have intersecting fibers oriented oblique to the horizontal longitudinal plane.

In advantageous modifications of the layered semi-finished product according to the invention, the preforming of the semi-finished, as well as the inclusion of metallic inserts or other components into said semi-finished is intended.
