Systems and methods for leveraging Internet-of-Things devices in security systems are provided. Such systems and methods can include receiving an alarm signal from a first IoT device responsive to the first IoT device detecting a sound indicative of an intrusion, requesting data from a second device responsive to receiving the alarm signal from the first IoT device, determining whether the data from the second device confirms the intrusion, and triggering an alarm responsive to the data from the second device confirming the intrusion.

Systems and methods for leveraging internet-of-things devices in security systems

A security system incorporating one or more sensors and one or more smart devices connected together via the Internet, other network or media. The one or more smart devices may have an alarm application (app) that permits a user to set and unset an alarm, monitor a status change of an event, have access to video information associated with the event, take remote or local action relative to the event, and more. The processing may be more than moving processing to one smart device. Core control may reside in more than one device, and thus result in a whole system robustness.

Systems and methods of communicating data from an alarm system to emergency services personnel are provided. Some methods can include receiving information from a monitoring system in a monitored region via a first communications link, where the information relates to a detected event in the monitored region. Upon receiving the information, some methods can also include transmitting the information to a communications module via a second, different communications link.

System and method of communicating data from an alarm system to emergency services personnel

A security system including devices generating persistent data, a local control system (LCS) including a microprocessor and non-volatile memory and receiving persistent data from the devices, and a server remote from the LCS. The remote server is in communication with the LCS microprocessor which periodically transmits logical portions of persistent data (each including a timestamp) to the remote server where it is saved. The microprocessor also periodically saves the persistent data portions in LCS non-volatile memory less frequently than the persistent data portions are periodically saved in the remote data storage, and saves the timestamp in the local data storage for each persistent data portion saved only at the remote server. When rebooting the LCS, the microprocessor retrieves from the remote data storage only the persistent data portions having timestamps subsequent to the timestamp saved in the local data control system non-volatile memory.

Security system storage of persistent data

A monitoring system is continuously coupled to and in communication with a selected network. The system monitors characteristics of the network and characteristics of assets of the network. Removal of assets can be detected and alarm indicating messages can be generated locally at the monitoring system or at a wireless communication device.

Equipment and network health monitoring using security systems

A security system including one or more sensors for detecting a predetermined security event. One or more communications modules include a transmitting device for communicating with the sensor and transmitting an alert signal of the security event. A remotely located computer system controls the communications between the transmitting device of the communication module for receiving a signal from and transmitting to the communications module. After receiving the alert signal, the computer system communicates an alarm signal.

Server based distributed security system

A method for predicting a fault in a wireless communication path between at least one transmitter and a receiver. The method comprises detecting an initial value of a characteristic of a reception signal or an initial value of a characteristic of a wireless communication path, calculating a running average of the same characteristic for preset period of time, comparing the initial value with the calculated running average; and displaying an indication based upon an analysis of the comparing. The indication is transmitted to a remote site for response. The characteristic can be signal strength, noise and a S/N ratio.

Method for predicting a fault in a security system

A method of managing data communications in a wireless security system. A message is transmitted from a fixed location security device and received by at least two transceivers. Each transceiver analyzes the received message to generate RSSI data. A digital message including the RSSI data is sent from each transceiver via a wired connection to a control panel, which analyzes the RSSI data from each transceiver to determine which transceiver generated the highest RSSI. The control panel then designates data exchange responsibility to the transceiver with the highest RSSI. That transceiver will have responsibility for acknowledging messages from that security device and send data to that security device from the control panel. A transceiver will be allocated to a portable security device if it is the first to receive the wireless message rather than on RSSI data.

Wireless transceiver management system and method

A cassette for an inked ribbon has a ribbon storage region, in which the ribbon is stored in tightly packed random folds, between two parallel walls spaced apart by a distance slightly in excess of the width of the ribbon. The storage region is bounded by ridges projecting from one or both walls to retain the ribbon within the storage region. This has the advantage compared with side walls for the storage region of lower frictional constraint on the ribbon thereby allowing the ribbon to be more tightly packed in the storage region.

Ribbon cassette for printers

A ribbon cartridge for printing apparatus is provided selectively with a color selection mechanism, when the cartridge is loaded with a multi-color ribbon, operated by moving the printer-carriage to a position beyond the print line limit and with a peg arranged to engage a cam mechanism on the print carriage, when the cartridge is loaded with a single color ribbon, to enable the full width of the ribbon to be utilized. The peg is formed integrally with the cartridge and is removed when a multi color ribbon is to be loaded in the cartridge.
