A switched capacitive device includes a stationary portion including a plurality of first electrodes extending at least partially in a longitudinal dimension. Each first electrode has a first substantially active electrode volume. The device also includes a translatable portion including a plurality of second electrodes proximate the plurality of first electrodes. Each second electrode has a second substantially active electrode volume. The first active electrode volume is greater than the second active electrode volume. The second electrodes are translatable with respect to the first electrodes. The second electrodes extend at least partially in the longitudinal dimension. The first electrodes are configured to induce substantially linear motion of the second electrodes in the longitudinal dimension through the use of an electric field induced by at least a portion of the first electrodes.

A method for shaping a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) sheet having a first surface and a second surface is presented. The method includes receiving an input signal representative of a predetermined shape and a type of the CMC sheet. Further, the method includes selecting a laser beam based on the received input signal. Also, the method includes projecting the selected laser beam on the CMC sheet to shape the CMC sheet into the predetermined shape.

System and method for shaping a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) sheet

A wire disposing assembly having a support, an axial traverser sub-assembly, a support arm, and a linear stage is provided. The support is configured to receive a plurality of turns of a wire, where the support is configured to rotate. The axial traverser sub-assembly is operatively coupled to the support. Further, a rate of motion of the axial traverser sub-assembly is coupled to a speed of rotation of the support. The support arm includes a resin unit configured to dispose resin on at least a portion of the wire, and a wire disposing device configured to guide a portion of the wire being disposed on a surface of the support. The linear stage is operatively coupled to the support arm.

Embodiments of an apparatus for forming insulation for an electrical component are provided herein. In one embodiment an apparatus for forming an insulation for an electrical component may include an actuator to pull an electrical component in a substantially linear direction, wherein the actuator is configured to move the electrical component in at least one direction relative to the substantially linear direction; a material source configured to provide a material to one or more surfaces of the electrical component as the electrical component is moved proximate the material source, wherein the material comprises at least a portion of an insulation; and a plurality of movable dies having inner surfaces disposed such that the material conforms to the one or more surfaces of the electrical component as the electrical component is moved through the plurality of movable dies.

Apparatus for forming insulation for electrical components

A system for producing precision magnetic coil windings is provided. The system includes a wire disposing assembly having a support, an axial traverser sub-assembly, and a support arm. The support is configured to receive a plurality of turns of a wire. The axial traverser sub-assembly is operatively coupled to the support. The support arm includes a wire disposing device. The system further includes a linear stage, a monitoring unit, a feedback unit, and a controller unit. The linear stage is operatively coupled to the support arm. Moreover, the controller unit is configured to axially position an incoming portion of the wire and provide reference trajectories for tracking.

A method of applying an outer insulation to a bare stator bar to form an insulated stator bar. The method entails extruding at least one extruded member that will form the outer insulation. The extruded member has an opposing pair of edges that are parallel to the longitudinal length of the extruded member. In addition, the extrusion process creates an inner cavity that extends the longitudinal length of the extruded member. A bare stator bar is then inserted into the inner cavity of the outer insulation so that the outer insulation surrounds the perimeter of the bar and extends along a longitudinal length thereof. The opposing pair of edges of the extruded member are then attached together so that the perimeter of the bar is entirely enclosed by the extruded member.

A method of applying an outer insulation to a stator bar to form an insulated stator bar. The method entails extruding at least one extruded member that will form the outer insulation. The extruded member has an opposing pair of edges that are parallel to the longitudinal length of the extruded member. Systems and methods for automated sensing and machining for repairing airfoils of blades

A method for enabling design of a profile extrusion capping die includes, obtaining a size and configuration of a land formable by the capping die, obtaining material properties of a capping resin, obtaining operating conditions for processing the capping resin, and determining, from the size and configuration of the land, the material properties, the operating conditions, at least one of a velocity distribution and a pressure distribution of the capping resin adjacent to an outlet of the land. Desirably, the method also includes obtaining a size and configuration of a runner formable by the profile extrusion capping die, and determining at least one of the velocity distribution and the pressure distribution of the capping resin in the land and the runner. Advantageously, the method is implemented on a system or computer using a finite element mesh of the land and the runner and graphically displaying the velocity distribution and the pressure distribution. The system allows a designer to design a profile extrusion capping die electronically by revising the size and configuration of the land, runner, and/or inlet gate, to obtain a uniform velocity of the capping resin along the land outlet thus resulting in a capping having a uniform thickness.

Method and system for designing a profile extrusion capping die

A mold for molding a core for use in casting hollow parts includes, a lower mold portion and an upper mold portion defining therein a cavity corresponding to the outer surface of the core. The lower mold portion includes a cutout disposed along a parting line defined between the lower mold portion and the upper mold portion and opening onto the cavity. After introduction of a ceramic slurry mixture into the mold the upper mold portion is removable, to expose a first side of the core and a protective flash formed in the cutout. Desirably, a heat shield is positioned over the protective flash and the exposed portion of the parting line of the lower mold portion so that the lower mold portion is not exposed directly to a flame during a preliminary firing to impart sufficient strength to the ceramic core so that the ceramic core may be handled. Providing the core with a protective flash allows the mold to be advantageously fabricated by rapid tooling technique such as by a stereolithography process from a plastic material.
