The invention concerns a method for feeding an optical cored wire into a molten metal bath and an immersion system and an immersion nozzle to carry out the method. The optical cored wire () is decoiled, a feeding and straightening device () with a plurality of rollers () conducts feeding of the optical cored wire () in a feeding direction towards the metal bath () as well as a first straightening of the optical cored wire (), and subsequently a separated further plurality of non-motor driven nozzle straighteners () arranged between the feeding and straightening device () and the metal bath () conducts a second straightening of the optical cored wire (). Very high precision of temperature measurement can thereby be achieved.

Optical cored wire immersion nozzle

A method for feeding a cored wire into molten metal contained in a vessel comprises positioning the cored wire at a first position wherein a leading tip of the cored wire is proximate an entry point of the vessel, the entry point being above a surface of the molten metal, the cored wire comprising an optical fiber and a cover laterally surrounding the optical fiber; feeding the cored wire at a first speed for a first duration from the first position to a second position wherein the leading tip of the cored wire is immersed within the molten metal and lies within a measuring plane, such that a leading tip of the optical fiber projects from the cover and is exposed to the molten metal; and subsequently feeding the cored wire at a second speed for a second duration to take a first measurement of the molten metal.

A consumable cored wire for measuring a temperature of a molten steel bath includes an optical fiber and a cover laterally surrounding the optical fiber in a plurality of layers. One layer is a metal pipe, also called metal jacket or metal tube. An intermediate layer, also called filler, is arranged beneath the metal tube. The intermediate layer is a rope.

Cored wire, method and device for the production of the same

An optical cored wire includes an optical fiber and a cover laterally surrounding the optical fiber. The cover surrounds the optical fiber in a plurality of layers. One layer is a metal coat, also called a metal jacket or a metal tube. An intermediate layer, also called filler, is arranged beneath the metal tube. The intermediate layer is formed from a thermal insulating material having a melting point in the temperature ulnae of 1000&#xb0; C. to 1500&#xb0; C., such that the pieces of the intermediate layer are fluid upon exposure to the molten metal temperatures and a portion of the intermediate layer, the entire intermediate layer and/or the cover laterally surrounding the optical fiber can melt immediately upon immersion into the molten metal or immediate exposure to the molten metal.

Consumable optical fiber for measuring a temperature of a molten steel bath

A container for molten metal is provided with a temperature measuring device arranged in an opening of a container wall. The temperature measuring device has a protective sheath, which projects into the container and which is closed at its end arranged in the container. A temperature measuring element is arranged in an opening of the protective sheath. The protective sheath is composed of a mixture of a heat-resistant metal oxide and graphite, and the closed end is spaced at least 50 mm from the container wall.

Container for molten metal, use of the container and method for determining an interface

A device for measuring the temperature in molten metals contains a thermocouple arranged in a ceramic tube that is closed on one side, and has an external protective body that surrounds the tube, forming an annular space between the outer surface of the tube and the inner surface of the protective body. The protective body is formed of a mixture containing 75 to 90% by weight aluminum oxide, 2 to 10% by weight silicon oxide, 7 to 15% by weight graphite, 0.1 to 1% by weight FeO, 0.1 to 1% by weight (KO+NaO), and 0.1 to 1% by weight MgO.

Device for measuring temperature in molten metal

Regulation of the throughflow of metal melt is provided through a bottom nozzle of a metallurgical vessel having an upper nozzle arranged in the floor of the metallurgical vessel and a lower nozzle arranged below the upper nozzle. At least one inert gas inlet aperture is provided to the melt throughflow aperture, and a sensor is arranged on or in the lower nozzle for determining the layer thickness of metal clogging in the nozzle. The inert gas supply into the bottom nozzle is regulated using measurement signals of the sensor. A bottom nozzle for the metallurgical vessel is provided with a wall of the melt throughflow aperture through the nozzles being formed at least sealed against metal melt and the nozzles being at least partially surrounded by a gas-tight housing. The housing at its lower end encloses the lower nozzle at its periphery in a gas-tight manner and is arranged with a portion of its inner side abutting on the outer side of the nozzle. A thermally insulating solid is arranged between the wall of the melt throughflow aperture and the housing.

Regulation method for throughflow and bottom nozzle of a metallurgical vessel

A container for molten metal includes an outlet for outflow of the molten metal from the container and a temperature measuring device fixed in a wall of the container. The temperature measuring device includes a plug, an outer protective sheath having a closed end, and an inner protective tube having a closed end. The inner protective tube is arranged within the outer protective sheath. A thermocouple is arranged within the inner protective tube. The plug includes a substantially refractory material and the outer protective sheath consists essentially of substantially refractory metal oxide and graphite. The outer protective sheath extends away from the first end of the plug and projects into a recessed portion of the wall of the container. The closed end of the outer protective sheath is arranged in the recessed portion. A junction of the thermocouple is proximate to the closed end of the inner protective tube.

Container for molten metal

A temperature measuring device for molten metal includes a porous plug with a first end and an opposed second end, an outer protective sheath with a closed end, an inner protective tube with a closed end, and a thermocouple arranged within an interior of the inner protective tube. The outer protective sheath extends away from the first end of the plug and the inner protective tube is arranged within an interior of the outer protective sheath. The porous plug comprises a substantially refractory material and the outer protective sheath consists essentially of substantially refractory metal oxide and graphite. A junction of the thermocouple is proximate to the closed end of the inner protective tube.

Temperature measuring device

A device is provided for temperature measurement in metal melts, particularly in iron or steel melts, having a thermoelement, which is arranged in a thermoelement tube, and having an exterior protective body, which is essentially formed of graphite and metal oxide. The thermoelement tube is arranged in the protective body with a spacing, forming an intermediate space, and an insulating material and an oxygen-reducing material are arranged in the intermediate space. The insulating material and the oxygen-reducing material, as a powder mixture, form a tube (), which surrounds the thermoelement tube () with a spacing and/or which is surrounded by the protective body () with a spacing.

A method for regulating metal melt throughflow through a melt throughflow aperture in a bottom nozzle of a metallurgical vessel is provided. The bottom nozzle has an upper nozzle arranged in a floor of the metallurgical vessel and a lower nozzle arranged below the upper nozzle. The method includes introducing inert gas through at least one inert gas inlet aperture into the melt throughflow aperture in the bottom nozzle, arranging a temperature sensor on or in the lower nozzle for determining a temperature in a wall of the bottom nozzle, and regulating an inert gas supply into the bottom nozzle using measurement signals from the sensor. A decrease in the temperature signals an increase of metal clogging and an increase in the temperature signals a decrease of metal clogging.

Regulation method for melt throughflow through a melt throughflow aperture

A refractory nozzle is provided for arrangement in or on a wall of a metallurgical crucible, particularly for steel melts, having a discharge duct surrounding a flow passage, wherein the discharge duct has a surface delimiting the flow passage and an outer housing. In order to improve the known solutions of the prior art, one embodiment of the nozzle is characterized by the discharge duct having an upper part and a lower part with the lower part being fixed in or on the upper part, wherein the surface of the upper part delimiting the flow passage is made of a different material than the surface of the lower part delimiting the flow passage. In a second embodiment the nozzle is characterized by the discharge duct having an upper part and a lower part with the lower part being fixed on or in the upper part, wherein the diameter of the flow passage in the upper part is greater than the diameter in the lower part.
