A brake mounting bracket apparatus that includes a rear body and a front body. The rear body includes an inboard tie bar and a pair of legs that each extend from a lower portion at the inboard tie bar to a terminal end. The front body includes an outboard tie bar and a pair of arms that each extend from the outboard tie bar to a distal end. A pair of bridges each extend between one of the legs and one of the arms. A pair of webs each extend outwardly from one of the bridges for providing stiffness to the bridges and for damping vibrations in the mounting bracket apparatus.

A caliper housing including a piston bore and a bridge extending between the piston bore and a pair of caliper fingers interconnecting the caliper fingers and the piston bore. The caliper fingers of the caliper housing extend downwardly from the bridge to define a flat surface. A rotor having a disc shape defines a first side and a second side and disposed adjacent to the caliper fingers. An outer brake pad defining a first centroid is disposed adjacent to the first side of the rotor abutting the caliper fingers allowing the caliper fingers to urge the outer brake pad into engagement with the first side of the rotor. Each of the caliper fingers defines a pivot edge extending between the outer brake pad and the flat surface of the caliper fingers allowing the outer brake pad to pivot about the pivot edge.

The invention provides a multi-disc brake for a vehicle. A knuckle supports a wheel of a vehicle. A hub is mounted for rotation on the knuckle about a rotation axis. A pair of discs are mounted for rotation with the hub and for sliding movement on the hub along the rotation axis. Each of the discs includes respective inboard and outboard engaging surfaces. Brake pad assemblies are disposed about the discs to engage the engaging surfaces. The brake pad assemblies slide along the rotation axis relative to the hub. A brake fist having a bridge portion extends outboard from the knuckle around the discs and the brake pad assemblies to an outboard wall supporting the outboard brake pad assembly against outboard movement along the rotation axis. An actuator urges the discs and the brake pad assemblies together against the outboard wall to slow rotation of the hub. A first bolt extends along a first bolt axis and a second bolt extends along a second bolt axis spaced from the first bolt axis across the outboard wall for connecting the brake fist to the knuckle. A reinforcing rib extends outwardly from and across the outboard wall to intersect both of the first bolt axis and the second bolt axis in a plane perpendicular to the discs for limiting deflection of the outboard wall.

A disc brake rotor is retained on a bearing hub assembly during handling, shipping and installation of the wheel by a retaining clip. The clip is snapped into a machined groove on the bearing pilot hub after the disc brake rotor is assembled to the bearing and gauged for optimal runout. The retaining clip acts as a physical block thereby keeping the rotor positioned on the bearing hub and eliminates the need for specific orientation of a retention device or removal of material from the disc rotor or wheel as in prior systems.
