A method for controlling a quantity of medium transferable from a screen roller of a printing machine onto a roller that is in contact with the screen roller includes exerting an influence upon a difference in circumferential speed between the screen roller and the roller in contact therewith, and further includes controlling the difference in the circumferential speed as a function of the printing speed of the printing machine, so that printed medium density remains at least approximately constant at least within a wide printing speed range.

An offset printing press includes a first plate cylinder, a first blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the first plate cylinder, an anilox inker for inking the first plate cylinder, and a first motor directly connected to the anilox inker for driving the anilox inker and connected to the first plate cylinder for driving the first plate cylinder. A second print couple has a second plate cylinder and a second blanket cylinder for selectively contacting the second plate cylinder. A second anilox inker inks the second plate cylinder and a second motor directly connected to the second anilox inker drives the second anilox inker and is connected to the second plate cylinder for driving the second plate cylinder. Blanket cylinders are either driven by their own third motor or via gear transmission from the first or second motors.

A method of adjusting dampening-solution feed of an offset printing press by a control device includes determining a required dampening-solution demand for a first calibration printing form with a known minimum percent area coverage and for a second calibration printing form with a known maximum percent area coverage at a calibration speed, and storing the dampening-solution demand in the control device as interpolation reference points; determining a percent area coverage lying between the maximum and the minimum percent area coverage of the calibration printing forms of a printing form to be used for a forthcoming print job, and passing the determined percent area coverage on to the control device; determining by the control device the dampening-solution demand required for the forthcoming print job with the printing form provided for the purpose at the calibration speed, by interpolating between the interpolation reference points; determining a printing-speed dependent characteristic curve of the dampening-solution demand required for the forthcoming print job with the printing form provided for the purpose; and controlling, during the processing of the print job, the feed of the dampening solution along the characteristic curve.

A printing press includes an inking unit provided with a screen roller having, on a circumference thereof, a pattern formed of depressions fillable with a printing medium, another roller co-operatively engageable with the screen roller, and a drive device, the screen roller and the other roller being drivingly coupled with one another so that, after each revolution of the screen roller, a pattern depicted by the printing medium on the other roller in a form of printing medium accumulations has a slight offset, in circumferential direction, with respect to a pattern depicted on the other roller during a preceding revolution of the screen roller, so that the new printing medium accumulations are positionable on the other roller in at least approximately printing-medium free gaps in, respectively, adjacent printing medium residual accumulations; and a method of operating the printing unit.

Moreover, a method for removing gapless print sleeves includes rotating a first counterpoise arm about an axis so as to counterpoise a first end of a first cylinder, sliding a first print sleeve off of the first cylinder, rotating a second counterpoise arm about the axis so as to counterpoise a second end of a second cylinder, and sliding a second print sleeve off the second cylinder.
