A distributor for a circulating dry scrubber reactor includes a venturi section with a venturi section wall extending from a venturi section inlet to a venturi section outlet along a longitudinal axis, with the venturi section inlet connected to an inlet plenum and the venturi section outlet connected to a circulating dry scrubber reactor. A hub is mounted within the venturi section wall with an annular converging-diverging flow path defined between the venturi section wall and the hub for distribution of gas flow from the venturi section outlet into a circulating dry scrubber reactor space and for maintaining stable bed fluidization in a CDS system at a comparatively low system pressure loss.

Gas distributors for circulating fluidized bed reactors

An integrated system [] is described for reducing operating costs of power plants while keeping gaseous pollutants in exhaust flue gasses, such as Mercury (Hg), below acceptable limits. Controller [] monitors and controls operation of a scrubber [], activator injection system [], sorbent injection system [] and a filter []. Scrubber [] provides a neutralizer to remove SOemissions. Activator injection system [] provides and activator that increases affinity of the pollutant gasses for a sorbent. Sorbent injection system [] employs novel low friction injection lances [] that evenly distribute the sorbent particles. A filter [] collects the sorbent particles that cake onto filter bags [] that are periodically cleaned. A controller [] receives the costs of materials consumed and the filter bag life for the plant and performs an optimization of the multiple variables to minimize costs while keeping the pollutant emissions below a prescribed limit.

An energy-efficient grinding roll for employment in a pulverizer operative for effecting the pulverization of solid material therein. The energy-efficient grinding roll includes a body portion formed of a first type of material, an external surface formed of a second type of material, and tread-like means of preestablished dimensions and preestablished spacing provide on the external surface such that the energy-efficient grinding roll is capable of achieving as much as a 15% reduction in the energy required to pulverize solid material when compared with the use of standard grinding rolls.

Energy-efficient grinding rolls for coal pulverizers

A method of controlling the operation of the bowl mills in a coal-fired steam generating power plant is disclosed; and in particular a method of controlling the operation of such bowl mills such that the furnace of a steam generating power plant can more rapidly respond to abrupt changes in the demands placed upon the output of the furnace due to abrupt changes in the power requirements of an electric power grid.

Technique for improving the response time of pulverized coal boilers

A nozzle damper assembly (10) for installation in a duct (12) operative for measuring and controlling the flow of a gaseous medium through the duct (12). The subject nozzle damper assembly (10) includes enclosure means (24) cooperatively associated with the duct (12), shaft means (26) suitably supported from the sidewalls (32, 34, 36, 38) of the enclosure means (24), damper blade means (16,18) rotatable mounted on the shaft means (26) for movement within the enclosure means (24), damper blade operating means (28) operative for purposes of effecting the movement of the damper blade means (16,18) within the enclosure means (24), and flow measurement means (20,22) supported at a first location and at a second location relative to in lieu thereof the damper blade means (16,18) and operative to measure the flow of the gaseous medium through the nozzle damper assembly (10) such that control may be exercised over the flow of the gaseous medium through the duct (12) based on such measurements.

Nozzle damper assembly

A furnace (10) having burner means (12) associated with it for burning a sulfur-bearing fuel. Sorbent material, such as limestone, is introduced through nozzles (34) along a pipe (32) extending across the width of the furnace above the nose (31) in the upper portion of the furnace, so that the pipe and the sorbent are protected from heat radiation from the combustion within the furnace.

Sorbent injection system

A reduced length venturi type flow measuring device having a peripheral flow restricting surface 22, 30, 20 and a central hub 40 with flow restricting surfaces 42, 48, 52. Anti-spin vanes 60 support the hub. Pressure taps 60, 62 permit flow measurement, and temperature may be measured, 72, between adjacent vanes.

Annular venturi flow measuring device

A microwave transmitter irradiates each outlet pipe flow path of a coal pulverizer with a beam of electromagnetic energy at a microwave frequency. The microwave energy absorbed in each outlet pipe flow path is monitored and is proportional to the pulverized fuel flow therethrough. Knowing the fuel flow rate into the pulverizer, the fuel flow rate through each outlet pipe flow path may be determined. The portion of pulverized fuel flow exiting the pulverizer through a given pipe is determined as the ratio of microwave energy absorbed in each outlet pipe flow path to the average microwave energy absorbed in all outlet pipe flow paths of the pulverizer, multiplied by the fuel flow rate into the pulverizer divided by the number of outlet pipe flow paths.
