A method for promoting growth in fish comprising administering a low level dosage amount of zearalanol to fish. The zearalanol may be conveniently administered to the fish via a novel fish feed formulation comprising a conventional feed mixture supplemented with a relatively low dosage amount of zearalanol ranging from 1 to 20 parts per million (ppm) zearalanol in the feed. In another embodiment, the zearalanol may be administered to the fish in the form of a novel complex of zearalanol and a cyclodextrin compound which further enhances the growth process.

Growth promoting composition for fish and method of using the same

Substituted resorcyclic acid esters having the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, are H, X, or COX, where X is an alkyl group having from 1-6 carbon atoms; and R.sub.3 is an alkyl group having from 1-12 carbon atoms are synthesized and used as housefly chemosterilants which reduce housefly fecundity.

Estriol is administered to ruminants in dosages from about 0.01-4.0 mg/ruminant/day to promote growth and increase feed utilization efficiency.

Compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, or an alkyl from about 1 to about 3 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, or an alkyl from about 1 to about 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is keto, or hydroxyl; and R.sub.4 is hydrogen, an alkyl from about 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyl, or amino are synthesized and administered to animals as anabolic agents.

Zearalanol derivatives with anabolic activity

The Resorcylic Acid Lactone (RAL) derivatives zearalenone, zearalanone, zearalene, zearalane, zearalenol, zearalanol, and dideoxyzearalane are administered to vertebrates to non-specifically stimulate the immune system.

Immunostimulating agents

A method for extracting phosphoric acid from wet process phosphoric acid is disclosed. N,N-dialkyl-.alpha.-aminoacids are contacted with wet process phosphoric acid to extract substantially pure phosphoric acid therefrom. The N,N-dialkyl-.alpha.-aminoacids are dissolved in a diluent.

Aqueous mother liquor from which pentaerythritol has been removed by crystallization is extracted with tetrahydrofuran to remove formals, and the raffinate comprising pentaerythritol is recycled to the crystallization process.

Process for refining waste liquor

A process for the separation of a dissolved solid from an aqueous solution containing it, comprising the steps of (a) adding thereto an organic liquid which is a poor solvent for the dissolved solid and which forms an azeotrope with water, (b) subjecting the mixture to azeotropic distillation to separate at least a major portion of the water, (c) cooling the mixture thereby causing substantially complete separation of the dissolved solids, and (d) separating same from the mother liquor.

Compounds of the following formula and a method for their preparation are disclosed: ##STR1## wherein Ar is substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, R, R' and R' may be similar or dissimilar and are each selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl of from 1 to about 5 carbon atoms. The compounds of this invention are useful as antimicrobial agents.
