Circuit arrangement, and method for the operation of a high-pressure discharge lamp

A circuit arrangement for operating a high-pressure discharge lamp () with an electronic ballast, which is designed to provide an AC feed signal for the high-pressure discharge lamp (). The AC feed signal comprises, in the time range as modulation period (T), a serial sequence of at least one first signal section (Sa), one second signal section (Sa) and one third signal section (Sa), which are associated with a first, a second and a third color. The AC feed signal is an amplitude-modulated RF signal (I) with a frequency (f) of at least 500 kHz. The following applies for the envelope (E) of the signal components with a positive and/or negative amplitude: the absolute value of the envelope (E) has a mean amplitude (M); and the first signal section (Sa) and/or the second signal section (Sa) and/or the third signal section (Sa) has/have at least one temporal range in which the absolute value of the envelope (E) is between 5% and 100% greater than the mean amplitude and/or in which the absolute value of the envelope (E) is between 5% and 90% less than the mean amplitude (M).

Circuit arrangement and method for operating a high-pressure discharge lamp

A starting circuit arrangement for starting at least one discharge lamp by applying an electrical starting voltage pulse to the discharge lamp, the starting circuit arrangement has: at least one source circuit arrangement for providing an electrical primary voltage pulse, at least one starting circuit for providing the starting voltage pulse, and at least one inductive coupling element for inductively coupling-in the primary voltage pulse into the starting circuit for the purpose of generating the starting voltage pulse. The inductive coupling element has a transformation ratio for a voltage transformation which is selected from the range of from 1/25 to 1/400. A method for starting a discharge lamp by applying a starting voltage pulse using the starting circuit arrangement is also disclosed.

Ignition circuit for igniting a discharge lamp and method for igniting the discharge lamp

An inductive component, for the formation of a magnetic circuit has at least one wire winding and at least one core with a ferromagnetic core material. The core comprises a gap and at least one further gap to interrupt the magnetic circuit. The inductive component is characterized in that the gaps each have a gap width of at least 1.0 mm. The core comprises two pieces, for example, which are arranged opposed to each other across the gaps and separated from each other by the gap width. The component is advantageously symmetrical with an essentially equal gap width for the gaps. A miniaturized inductive component is possible by the use of a hire winding made from high frequency braided wire and core material capable of accepting high frequencies, which has a high Q-factor even on a high power throughput and thus low electrical losses. In order to increase the Q-factor, the inductive component also has a cooling device for cooling the wire winding. The device is thus provided with a composite material with a thermally-conducting filler. The inductive component is used in a so-called electronic ballast (EVG) in the field of illumination.

Inductive component and use of said component

A circuit () used for power factor correction, corresponds to a known circuit that includes a high-frequency frequency source () for generating a high-frequency voltage (Uf) for a pump capacitor (). The high-frequency voltage source () has two on/off switches () connected in series that generate, at an electric connection point (), a square wave voltage (U) that varies between these two switches with a frequency (f) of at least 1 megahertz. The voltage source further includes a smoothing device () for generating from the square wave voltage a smoothed voltage (Uf) for the pump capacitor, whereby the smoothed voltage varies with a frequency (f) of at least 1 megahertz.

Power factor correction

To produce a mechanically firm glued connection between two surface regions of surfaces to be connected, a method is provided which provides each of the surfaces with surface regions having a peak-to-valley thickness of less than 0.3 &mgr;m and the surface regions are brought together in such a way that an intermediate space, which is filled with the glue, is produced therebetween and the space has a small average thickness of less than 0.31 &mgr;m and extends over a surface area of at least 20&times;20 &mgr;m,. The glue is preferably brought into the intermediate space by capillary action and contacts of high quality can be achieved with this method.
