A sea water cooling system including a first fluid cooling loop coupled to a first side of a heat exchanger and to a thermal load, a second fluid cooling loop coupled to a second side of the heat exchanger and including a pump for circulating fluid through the second fluid cooling loop, and a controller operatively connected to the pump, wherein the controller is configured to monitor an actual temperature in the first fluid cooling loop and to adjust a speed of the pump based on the monitored temperature to achieve a predetermined temperature in the first fluid cooling loop. The system may be selectively operable in one of a plurality of operating modes, wherein in a first operating mode the pump operates based entirely on cooling demands of the thermal load, and in a second operating mode the pump operates to maintain a fluid pressure above a predefined pressure.

Intelligent sea water cooling system

An intelligent sea water cooling system including a first fluid cooling loop coupled to a first side of a heat exchanger and to a thermal load, a second fluid cooling loop coupled to a second side of the heat exchanger, a pump for circulating fluid through the second fluid cooling loop, and a controller connected to the pump. The controller may monitor a temperature in the first fluid cooling loop and may adjust a speed of the pump to keep the temperature within a preferred operating range. If the speed of the pump is reduced to a predefined minimum pressure pump speed, the controller may start a timer thaving a predefined duration. If the timer texpires and the temperature has not increased relative to when the timer twas started, the controller may reduce the speed of the pump below the minimum pressure pump speed.

Intelligent sea water cooling system and method

A controller for controlling a frequency inverter of a positive displacement pump motor of a positive displacement pump. The controller comprises a control unit configured to produce a control variable (Ys) for a frequency inverter of a positive displacement pump motor depending on a reference variable (W) and a first actual operating parameter (X). According to the invention, the control unit is associated with logical means having a first threshold value defining means that are designed to determine at least one first threshold value (YGrenzmax, YGrenzmin) depending on the first actual operating parameter (X) and/or at least one further actual operating parameter (XH, YH, YHH) that could lead to a failure state of the positive displacement pump when exceeded or fallen short of.

The controller may be configured to monitor an actual temperature in the first fluid cooling loop and to adjust a speed of the fluid pump based on the monitored temperature in order to achieve a desired temperature in the first fluid cooling loop.
