Methods and apparatus for using polarized light (e.g., infrared (IR) light) to improve eye-related functions such as iris recognition. An eye camera system includes one or more IR cameras that capture images of the user's eyes that are processed to perform iris recognition, gaze tracking, or other functions. At least one polarizing element may be located in the path of the light which is used to capture images of the user's eye. The user's eye may be illuminated by IR light emitted by one or more LEDs. At least one of the LEDs may be an LED with a polarizing filter. Instead or in addition, at least one polarizer may be located at the eye camera sensor, in the eye camera optics, or as or in an additional optical element located on the light path between the eye camera and the user's eye.

The invention relates to a device and a method for performing an eye gaze mapping (M), in which at least one point of vision (B) and/or a viewing direction of at least one person () in relation to at least one scene recording (S) of a scene () viewed by the at least one person () is mapped onto a reference (R). A method for soldering an insulating substrate onto a substrate mounting portion of a carrier by a predefined solder is provided. The insulating substrate includes a dielectric insulation carrier, a top side, and a bottom side opposite to the top side. The method includes selecting the insulating substrate based on a criterion which indicates that the insulating substrate, if it has the solidus temperature of the solder, has a positive unevenness. The insulating substrate is soldered on the bottom side to the substrate mounting portion, such that, after the soldering, the solidified solder extends continuously from the bottom side of the insulating substrate as far as the substrate mounting portion. An evaluation status model having a number of main statuses and an interpretation status model having a number of operating statuses are set up, with precisely one time account corresponding to each main status and transitions between operating statuses being established in accordance with events that can be picked up on the production machine. After that, operating statuses are assigned to main statuses and the time account of the main status applicable at a particular time is increased during the operation of the production machine by an amount that corresponds to the time period in which the production machine is in the main status concerned. Moreover, the number and sequence of changes in status are stored as a history.
