A multi-gallon capacity container comprising which comprises a substantially rectangular bottom portion having a chime and a plurality of base channels; a shoulder portion with a neck section for facilitating filling and discharging of liquid from the container and a plurality vertically extending shoulder channels; a body portion which seamlessly connects the bottom portion with the shoulder portion and having a plurality of spaced apart horizontal ribs and rib channels for increasing a lateral wall strength of the container. The container includes a first and second primary columns for increasing a top load strength of the container. Each primary column commences in the shoulder portion, extends substantially continuously along the shoulder portion, across the plurality of horizontal ribs, and terminates at the bottom portion. Each one of the horizontal ribs has a column feature formed therein which is aligned with one of the first and the second primary columns and forms a continuation of primary column from the shoulder portion to the bottom portion.

A method of producing a non-lofted fiber veil of an orientable polymer for the production of insulation, e.g. thermal, for blown-in applications, having X, Y and Z vector directions of the fibers comprising, melt blowing the polymer to form molten fibers, having molecules oriented along the length of the fibers, the X vector direction, placing the fibers on a roller spinning at a rate to provide additional orientation of the molecules of the fibers, displacing some said fibers into the Y vector direction, and cooling the fibers while on the roller to form the non-lofted fiber veil. Also included is the product of the method, a blown in insulation, intermediate products, an apparatus and a method of producing a product for blown-in installation.

A method of preventing delamination of multiple layers of an oriented polymer container having an opening defined by the multiple layers comprising a bi-axially oriented multilayer polymer container having an opening defined by a perimeter at which the multiple layers are exposed; heating the perimeter until workable; providing a curling die; feeding the multilayer perimeter into the curling die to curl the perimeter sufficiently to inhibit delamination of the layers and a container when so made.

A handgrip formed in a wall of a plastics container, the wall having an interior, an interior surface, an exterior surface and a wall thickness and suitable for containing a carbonated beverage, including an integral structure formed of a central dome having a convex surface facing toward the adjacent said exterior surface and at least two concentric annular troughs, each having an annular concave surface facing the adjacent said exterior surface, an outer frustum interconnected with each trough and connecting rings, each of curved cross-section having an annular concave surface facing toward the interior, to join, integrally, the frustums to the next outer trough and the outermost frustum to the container wall surrounding the handgrip, the handgrip having a thickness approximately equal to the wall thickness, wherein the handgrip does not extend radially outwardly of the wall. An associated container, blow mold and method are also included.

Plastics container with recessed handgrip features and associated method and apparatus for manufacture thereof

A blow molded, bi-axially oriented plastic canister or container has a generally cylindrical body, a bottom, and a tapering upper portion, which terminates at a wide mouth or opening surrounded by a radially outwardly directed annular flange having an inwardly facing corner. A generally disc-shaped closure insert having a circumferential rim and a dispensing outlet is placed across the opening such that the closure rim is generally fitted into the corner of the annular flange. Heat or some other form of energy is applied to the entirety of the annular flange, which in response shrinks to tightly conform to and engage the closure rim, forming a circumferential seal. The dispensing outlet may be provided with an outlet closure, such as a screw cap or the like. Also, a sealant may be disposed between the annular flange and the closure rim before the heat is applied in order to form an enhanced seal. Furthermore, mechanical devices may be used to shape the flange during or after heating to further enhance the rim-flange seal or to provide additional sealing configurations.

A multi-cavity coinjection mold and method for simultaneously producing a plurality of multi-layered articles comprising: a mold structure defining a plurality of mold cavities; a first supply source for supplying metered amounts of a first molding material; a second supply source for supplying metered amounts of a second molding material; a hot runner system in communication with the first and second supply sources for conveying the metered amounts of the first and the second materials separately to a region proximate each of the cavities; the region comprising having a pin controlled passage leading to proximate cavity by way of a gate having the same cross-section as the passage, the pin scavenging material from the passage and providing cavity packing.

Molding multi-layered articles using coinjection techniques

A method of forming a wide mouth blow molded thermoplastic container comprising the steps of i) stretch blow molding from a preform, an intermediate article defining the container with the mouth being threaded and/or flanged, the mouth terminating in an accommodation element having a neck finish that supports the preform in the blow mold; ii) heat setting the intermediate article including the entire container while still in the mold, and iii) removing the intermediate article of manufacture from the mold and severing the accommodation element to produce the container, and an article when made by the method. The method also includes post forming of a rim portion of the container following separation of the container from the accommodation element.
